This trans is known for having some reverse issues. Does it do it more when it's warmed up, or are you having the problem right off the bat? There is a couple of issues that cause this. One issue is actually the opisite I believe where you get a slight delay going from reverse to drive, cuz the revese clutch doesn't come off. The fix for that was to chamfer the manual valve one the end of the valve on the inside of the last land on the valve.
Reverse delay problems are because the reverse input clutch has a big bleed hole drilled into the piston. It was designed to be blocked off when pressure builds up behind it to apply it, but it's not doing what it was designed to do, so the fix is to either drill the seperator plate hole for the reverse feed bigger, or if the trans is apart you have to plug that bleed hole with a cup plug and make another small hole on the oppisite end. My suggestion, just live with it, it's more work than it's worth trying to fix the problem. When it is time for a rebuild you can take care of it, or if you plan on doing a shift kit you can address it then.

I have the same issue and your the second person to mention the bleed hole issue. Mine started as a delay and has developed to a shutter.
The 4L60e shifts nice and crisp in all forward gears and has never given me a minutes trouble even towing a light trailer in overdrive @ 70 mph all day long. It has about 110K of mostly road miles on it. I recently changed to a deep pan and added a cooler. The fluid was not burned. There was a normal amount of clutch material in the old pan. No metal, nothing ugly.
I am leaning toward the bleed hole issue being my problem. I would like to address it via the valve body and not R&I the box unless I have to.
Do you know where I can find info on what circuit in the separator plate to open up. I was going to go for a Transgo shift kit and the .500 boost vale to up line presure overall. Do you know if the Transgo kit has info on the reverse feed or where i can find it.
Thanks , Billy

The transgo shift kit will have instructions on how to fix the reverse problem at the seperator plate as well as the reverse piston if you take the trans apart.
The 2-3 clunk is something basically every 4l60e does. I believe it has to do with a timing issue when the band comes off and the 3rd clutch comes on. I usually notice it more during light throttle upshifts, or when you get on the gas in 2nd and let off and it clunks into 3rd. The sonnax servo release checkvalve is a good item to add to get that problem in sync otherwise it's not a big deal just an annoyance.
