Ok I am nit sure if this has been a large topic or not but i could not find any in a search. I am trying to get a potentiometer with a switch hooked inline with my ECT sensor. I am sure you guys know the mod i am talking about. It tricks the computer into dumping more fuel in to the TBI by making it think the engine is colder. I did this to my friends 1990 Silverado 5.7L TBI and it had amazing results. When I did it to my 1995 Tahoe it would almost die when i lightly hit the gas. If i just mashed it to the floor it would die right away and i would have to turn off the potentiometer to restart the truck. What does this mean. Are trucks are almost the same except he has a performance chip and I don't. but this mod is supposed to work on stock computers too. Any help at all would be great. Thanks!!

You both have similiar trucks but are running different ecm's! Im sure that will effect how things are working. You should not trick the ecm into dumping in more fuel though, as you can tell it will cause problems and you can start to wash down the cylinder walls. I would spend a little cash and get into tuning your own chips. Its a much better way of telling the computer what to do and you will beable to make a chip that is far better than what your freind is running. Just my thoughts

Yea i have been looking at buying a chip but i don't know if i want to get into burning my own chips at this time. What about a Hypertech or Jet chip. Or a chip from TBIchips. What would be the best bang for the buck. I have not researched anything about the computer system yet, so i don't really know jack about it yet. lol

If you don't have a want to learn, just get a chip from tbi chips. It's better than hypertech and such, but still sucks. To do it right you need to tune the truck yourself. The only vehicle I could burn you a chip for would be stock 100% with no mods. The second you put on a mod they are just guessing and adding values to certain tables and GUESSING.
You would much rather stop tricking your computers like those two methods, sit down and dedicate yourself to a couple years of learning how to burn your own chips.
I swear you'll love us after.
