I have some thing going on with my 2000 Chevy, and it is starting to concern me. I think maybe the transmission is going out, but not certain. The other day after work ( Friday ) I decide to turn the A/C on for it has been hot, and as I was starting to leave from a red light some thing weird happen as I was going through the intersection. It seem like I lost power for a split second and noticed that my battery light came on the message board, and directly after that my SES light came on. After that split second of loss of power the truck rode fine on the way home, but the SES light was still on. Saturday I go to Lowes & Walmart with no problems except the SES light is still on, but as I was on my way home I noticed the SES light turned off.

Well later that night I had to move my truck out of the drive way, and as I put into reverse every thing seemed fine, but once I put into drive it seemed like it did not want to move what so ever until I gave it more gas that what it takes to pull up to the curb. So I take it out on the road and see if it was just my imagination and I kid you not it did not want to shift what so ever. As I started to pull out of my street I noticed that battery light came on once again, and it seemed to lose power for a slight second, but the odd thing I noticed was my odometer lights were not on, and the mileage as well as gear shift icons were not lit up at all, but right after that split second of loss of power they came on which I just blew off thinking maybe just maybe the battery is starting to go bad, but Im not for sure, and the SES light came back on. So I was going up the road at 55 doing some thing like 2200 rpms, and I pulled off to a side road, and stuck it in third and it still felt funny, but one I stuck it in 2nd and then shifted back to 3rd and then drive it seemed fine until I slowed down to turn.

Well last night I was thinking damn I am going to have to fork out some serious cash to have this fixed, but still some what puzzled. This morning I get in it and still the SES light is on but it drove just fine as if there was no problem what so ever, but again this SES light is on. I checked the transmission fluid and it looks good not differ in color and doesn't smell like it's burnt or nothing. The truck has 92 thousand some miles on it and it's my DD, and it does not see the off road except come deer season and that is usually drive through corn fields or back roads in the strip pits ect. The truck still has 3.73's in it and I am still riding on 33's, but I don't think its a gear situation, and if it is I don't mind a bit to have that done, but a transmission problem that a whole nother story for those things are some times a night mare to fix as well as on the pocket to have them fix. Can anyone relate to this problem, and give me some opinions?

I know some people are going to say some thing about double posting, but I honestly did not see that there was a forum for transmissions and such. So before people start blasting me about double post I just want to apologize for I know its pain to read an article one place and to read it once again in another. Again sorry for the double post. Thanks KP

It almost sounds like the classic ignition switch problem, but I thought they had that taken care of after 95. I'm sure you are going to have a transmission code, or several of them that would explain a whole a lot more. You're most likely in fail safe mode and you are starting out of 3rd gear in the transmission which is why you are having trouble taking off and not shifting. Try manually downshifting it to the 1st postion on your shifter when this happens... it should downshift you to 2nd gear, and make it a little easier to take off, plus you will feel a little better that you are in fail safe mode. I wouldn't drive it too far in this condition because you can do futher damage. Pull the codes and check back.

Well I took my truck to the shop to see what the hell was going on for it was starting to concern the chit out of me. Well they scanned it, but I can not remember the code that came up, but it's for a TCC ( Torque Clutch Converter ) Valve. The news sounded better before hand when they were checking for hopefully a burn out wire or some thing of that nature, but unfortunately my luck is BAD when it comes to these things. After checking they called with the worse news being that it's internal and the transmission will have to be pulled in order to change out this valve.

Apparently this valve pumps fluid to the clutches and when this loss of power I was talking about occurs this pump sort of shuts down temporally causing this feel of loss power. This pump takes a while regaining it's prime so to say, and with this loss it causes the clutches to make contact metal on metal, and if I don't keep babying it it could melt the bands causing further damage, and further damage to my pockets.

This valve apparently is on the top of the transmission torwards the front causing it to be pulled for this service. If I remember right the mechanic said it was behind torque converter itself or it had to come out to gain access to this valve or pump. What a bummer for I was hoping it to be some thing else with less cost for this is really hurting me.

The shop I use does do transmission work, but is not really their specialty so to say, but to fix this problem they said it's some thing they have done before just not that many. The ball park figure for this service was $650 and that is the high side of it or at least thats what they told me.

Well I was wonder what others thought about this, and does the price sound right? Would you consider taking to an actual transmission shop or go a head and let them do it? For they did tell me it would take two days to finish this service on my truck. I think tomorrow I am going to call a transmission shop and see what the difference will be, but I have a feeling it will be worse than what I heard from where I have my truck service.

I did mention to them should I take it to a transmission shop, and they told me it's no disrespect at all if I wanted to take to a transmission shop. The mechanic told me he wants me to take to where I will feel comfortable having the service done, and they have serviced the transmission back around 80,000 miles or so, and that was roughly 10,000 miles ago give or take a few hundred her and there. Just want to ask what others think on this matter. For I am wanting to do some other things, and this is really going to put a burden on some of my plans. Any and all opinions are appreciated, and if ANYONE has already had this done PLEASE give me some feed back. KP
