It can be done, but it's not just a walk in the park, there was an article in sport truck a few years ago, sorry I don't have it, maybe someone else knows the details.

I used to want to update mine, but I decided not to. The late '91 and up gauges only go to 85. Mine will go to 85 and start coming up the other side so at least I have some idea of how fast I'm going once I've maxed out the gauge. :D:D:D
BTW: I've had the black come back up to 55 before. :D

I have been thinking of doing the same thing. I just have to find a set of guages out of a 92 - 93 SS454. The ones with needles that have a 120 speedo. Let me know how it goes.
Thanks

Was it 110 or 120? I thought they were only 110.

The 90-91 models with the big bar that goes around in a half circle went to 110 but I thought the ones with needles went to like 115 or 120. Not sure though. But anything is better that 85 ;) I also hate to guess how fast I am going. Like that is hard with a V6 :D

first off i have a 93 that had the needles in it but no tach. ended up finding one with a tach from a junkyard for 60 bucks. everything works fine on mine. just take your gauge cluster out and see if you have a white wire, thats the wire for the tach. the best thing to do is to go to the dealership and get the wiring diagram for your year model and the wiring diagram for the cluster you want, make sure the wires match, if not switch them around till they do. the cluster i have now i think could be found in the 92-94 silverado package trucks. not sure though speedo only to 80. sorry for the long post. email me with more ?s
Did your cluster have the white wire? and how do you go about getting around the shift needle?

when you pull out your cluster youll see a plug with a bunch of wires on it. in mine there was a white wire already in it. i assumed that gm just used a couple of harnesses for all trucks made that year and put different clusters in them. as far as the shift needle im a little confused i guess. of course im probably just not thinking correctly.
The orange needle that says what gear you are in how did you dissconnect that and reconnect it to the new cluster?
thanks

I wonder if there is much of a difference from the 88-91 cluster harness vrs the 92+ harness. That is what I am trying to fingure out. I also have a monster tach on the dash so I have my tach signal wire. I just need to get the wireing diangromas from both and see. I would like to replace it with something more than 80 on the speedo though.
Not sure what to do with the gear indicator since mine is a 5 speed. sorry

the gear selector is easy you pull the cluster out and there is a fine metal wire that is just looped onto a plastic tab. pull that metal wire out and put it into the new one. youll have to feed it into the new cluster through one hole. just be sure and not strecth the gear selector tab out too far because its spring loaded an it wouldnt read right if you did. its easy.
I wonder if there is much of a difference from the 88-91 cluster harness vrs the 92+ harness. If anyone knows this please let me in on it also can anyone get the cluster for cheaper than $115 ???

what cluster do you want exactly? i would think that you could get if for cheaper than a 100 but every yard is different. as far as the harness ill look into the diagram i have and post it if you would like. it would be for a 92+.
ya I am looking to update my 88 cluster to a 92-94 cluster I f you can post the 92 cluster diagram I would appreciate it, I will go to the dealer and get a printout of the 88-91 cluster ...thanks bro
They changed the pin out and cluster in 92 so it has to be one before that. I tried using the needle gauge package from a 91, but it just wouldn't work. It would plug in but only the blinkers worked. I think they changed the order of the pin out in 91. If you can make it work, please tell me how...
WEll I got a cleaan 92-94 cluster..attempted but soon found out that the plug is different on 88-91 than 92-94..bunch of work for nothing..:cussing: ...At least I did not pay for the cluster
