View Full Version : De-Arching Rear Leafs.

After doing some pricing for the rear belltech leafs I decided to call around locally and see if there was a place where I could have my rear springs de-arched. One shop said that they could de-arch them 2" lower. I think that will compliment my 2" shackles well and leave me with a 4" drop total on my 2dr tahoe 4wd. That and I'm now sitting on a set of 20" Boss wheels with a 275/45/20 tire I should be fairly low on a 3/4 setup.

Thoughts?

Im not sure but de-arching sounds like heating and heating any spring is bad. Do they say how they de-arch them?

The most common way to de-arch is to heat and bend them back. I'm going to assume this is how they are going to do mine.

Nice ride BTW, what are you bagged on?

hmmmm go look springtech on the ebay they make same drop kit but whole set is likw 115.. with key and shackle... I drove on those for year and never had any problem and ride good...

it will be much safer than de-arching spring to me..

I already have a key and shackle kit on the truck now. I just want to get a couple more inches out of the rear, I think the rear de-arch is going to work perfect.

Load spring is still on. Removal of the load spring is only going to be another half inch to a inch... This will get me 2inches. I bought replacement leaves incase it turns out crappy.

What about drop hangers. There has to be a better way of doing this than what your planning. Hell take back your replacement just in case leafs and buy drop leafs. Don't cheap out. You will regret it later.

Nah, I think the springs will be ok.. Plus I got a great deal on the springs, I think the total cost will be 100 or so after its said and done.

Did more reading and it seems that de-arching isnt as bad as people are making it seem.

I'm not sure why you asked for peoples thoughts, and just keep arguing with them. De arching leafs is garbage.

I'm not arguing with anyone so calm down there BadNews.

Anyway, Swung over to the shop to get it done today. Took 20 minutes total. The spring shop used a 50 ton press to flatten out all the springs a little. I still have the overload spring in the pack, overall they pulled out 1.5" total.

tahoehtp, I'll get those pics asap.

just my .02 cents but I work for the u.s. military at a line haul rebuild site and we remove all the old leaf springs and sub contract a local company to "re-arch" the springs and we get a 5 year warrenty and have seen 0 problems with our trucks springs even after having them come back blown up, rolled over, and durned to the ground in iraq.

Yeah we rebuild the PLS hemtts HET and the line haul tractors from feightliner (m915a4/m915a3/m915a2/and 916a1's) and am generals old school 915a1, 916, 917, and 920's. We re arch and rebush all our springs at over 400 per year. ;-)

To my knowledge us (TXRSMS army national guard), red river depot, and Oshkosh are the only one's who do extenstive rebuilts of the pls and het's.
