I was wondering what i needed to do to be able to get the info off the chip so i can read it and go from there. Thank you much. 90C350 08-07-2007, 10:32 PM You will need a chip burner/reader. Do you have one?? Second you will need a program to decifer the codes in the chip so that you know what your looking at-- Tunerpro/Tunercat are the most common ones and Tunerpro is free but you should donate something. I would suggest the Burn1 from moates for a chip burner/reader its cheap and easy to use. Do you have a laptop?? Have you converted your ecm to the newer style chips yet?? If not you will need to do that so that it make's things alot easier when your ready to burn a new chip etc. I would Go to Moates.net and check out some of your options, also check out Thirdgen.org for all kinds of info. Its mostly Camero related but lots of info applies to our trucks. Hope that this helps out some??? 4.3_vortec 08-08-2007, 04:11 PM burn1, check. tunerpro, check. laptop, check. what do yu mean by coverting my ecm to the mewer stlye chips? And thank you much. 90C350 08-08-2007, 07:17 PM Sorry didnt see the year of your truck. But what kind of chip are you using?? IF you look on the Moates.net site you will see that he has an adapter to put into your current ecm so that you can use a flash style chip. REburnable. Its hard for me to explain in writing but check it out under Chips and sockets At moates. I'm pretty sure that your stock style chip is not burnable without a UV eraser. Also the You would have to tear up your original memcal. Its under Adapters and chip kits on Moates. Its called a G1 memory adapter. HOpe this helps racin69z 08-17-2007, 03:27 PM I hate to sound dumb, but what is a memcal? Just when I get ready to jump into this chip burning I run across something else that stumps me!! Lynn 90C350 08-18-2007, 07:15 PM Once you pull the cover off your ecm you will see what im talking about. The older style ecm have just a chip sitting there very easy to spot, they also have another small chip on the other side that is the calpac. Calpac= calabration pack, you dont need to change that. If you have the newer style ecm the chip and calpac are all one in a memcal with a cover and and soldered together. If you look on the moates site you can see pictures of what im talking about under the webpage for your specific type of chip install etc. I hope that this helps a little??? racin69z 08-19-2007, 08:16 AM I hate to hyjack this thread, but on my truck (92 gmc), when I put my chip in I just pulled the old one out and put the new one in its place. Does my truck have all this stuff you are refering to? Thanks Lynn doublelow49 08-19-2007, 09:27 AM I hate to hyjack this thread, but on my truck (92 gmc), when I put my chip in I just pulled the old one out and put the new one in its place. Does my truck have all this stuff you are refering to? Thanks Lynn Lynn, I'm fairly certain your's doesn't have memcal. Think this only applies to 94 - 95 model trucks. This is quite long, so hang with me. BYW, no guarantee that all my info is correct, so take it for what it's worth and do your own DD. Any corrections or additions from some of you other tuners out there will be gratefully appreciated. First, you have come to the right place if you really want to learn to tune your truck. There are some expert tuners on this forum if you really want to learn how. There is a little more involved than just burning a chip. In your case, it will be a little more complicated to get started since you have a little bugger called a memcal. It takes a special adapter and a different chip than what's in your truck to get set up for tuning & buring chips. A lot of stuff is free for downloading, but pay your dues with a donation to these folks who have spent a lot of time and effort to make it possible. Info on your setup, year, model, ecm, etc is a little hard to find. Check this site for ecm type, this is what I think you have although not much info for your setup. Best way is to pull ecm and get code # for ecm and bin off label. http://www.cruzers.com/~ludis/c3xref.html <H2>16196346 Application:1994 truck 4.3 V6 TBI “Z” w/ MT (“P” body)MEMPAK IDs:…CALPAK IDs:…Program ID:?? Install with ZIP for easy removal & install when you get started tuning. Burn1 will read your old chip but not burn. You will need newer style flash chips for this. http://www.moates.net/product_info.php?cPath=25_36&products_id=32 http://www.moates.net/documentation.php?documentation_id=9 Scratch, just noticed that WinALDL does not support this ecm.(Need this software to datalog to see how engine is performing & help point out areas changes can be made by tuning.) Maybe Datamaster will.
