you need to scuff them up really good to get the primer to stick, other than that it shouldnt be a problem as long as u clean them really good, any tire shine or oily residue will cause ur paint to fisheye.

clean them up real good and hit them with 600grit, powder coating would be more durable

No you will need to get the correct prep solvents for the aluminum. Its a totally different product then what is used on regular sheet metal and what not. My best friend just had me help paint an aluminum bartop, and he had talked to PPG about what to use. Go to your local paint rep/store, and ask. Most times if they dont know they can put you in touch with a paint rep.

Just for an example typical mix on clear is like 4 to 1 or 3 to 1 but this stuff need to be mixed 1 to 1. But your always better off asking a paint rep. If you dont know where to go, stop by a body shop and ask where they go to get their supplies.

The clear mix really has nothing to do with it. It's the etching of the aluminum that needs to be done first to get the primer to stick and not peel later on. And I'm not talking about etching primer, it's a chemical that needs to be applied to physically etch the aluminum.
