i just made an air intake for my 97 i basically removed the airbox and made a tray with sides and used a piece of 3.5" pvc pipe to connect them i used the stock filter for now ,looking for a k&n that will work.i installed the mass air flow to the throttle body stock box,it runs great the only problem is i get a flat spot at about 3500-4000 rpms at full throttle almost feels like a bad fuel pump, i reinstalled the stock air box and it was fine.any suggestions to why this happens,i put in my homemade intake again and i have been easy on the gas,i just dont want any damage to anything

By moving the MAF, you may be altering how the air flows across it, and hence, how it is measured. If its hitting a flat spot, it's probably leaning out on you.

Is the screen removed on the MAF?

Yeah, good point. Descreened MAFs can be much more sensitive to changes in airflow...

They also smooth out airflow at high RPM's for more accurate reporting..
