OK audiophiles, let me know if I'm on the right track or if I should just listen to talk radio...

Mono amp #1 is rated at 200W rms @ 4ohms and 400W rms @ 2ohms;

Sub A is rated at 400W rms, 4ohms.

I've read you should keep the rms ratings between subs and their amps close, so

1. if I wired a pair of sub A's in parallel the amp would run at 2ohm load and I'd be OK???!?

2. if Sub A had dual voice coil I could wire both coils on one sub and still achieve 2ohm load on the amp (and be OK)????

Thanks for any input

Option 2 is better than one since you would only be giving the single sub 200w (or so) and not the 400w it is rated for.

Just to make sure I understand, #2 is a better setup why?

(Thanks again)

because the single sub is rated for 400w and in option 2 gives all 400w to one sub. if you give 400w to 2 subs you will be splitting up the power of the amp. neither sub will perform to its full potential, not sounding as good.

It all makes sense now.

Thanks for the help.

Part of the reason it is very important to buy drivers & amps together with a plan and not just haphazardly.

Yeah, I'm seeing this as a long drawn out process...
