Factory Paint over Masking Tape

So I'm washing my truck the other day and beneath the passenger side front door, I saw a piece of paint that looked like it was flaking off. I got down and looked closer and believe it or not, the factory painted over a piece of stray masking tape and now I've got a chunk of paint missing and its rusting!! I took it to the dealership and they said the body shop was going to look at it. Hope it gets re-painted correctly. Anybody else run into a similar problem with a factory paint job like this? BTW, I found a second piece that was just a little sliver up under the edge of my trim on the bottom of the drivers side but didn't have any paint on it. Weird.

Does the factory even use masking tape when painting? How positive are you that the truck has never been repainted?

If it's a fairly new truck (you're the only owner it's had), chances are it got screwed up in transport, a dent or a scratch or something. It went straight off the truck and into the dealerships bodyshop. Thats where it was touched up (and done poorly, apparently) and then sent to the lot as 100% perfect and new. They don't have to disclose that info. to you the buyer either.

Makes sense and yeah I'm the only owner. Talk about sub-standard quality control. Hopefully they do a good job and make it right.

i agree i bet it was damaged on the lot and that is where the tape came from.

Bingo, pull back some of the moldings under the doors and what not and see if there are tape lines.

yeah no vehicle factory uses tape
