I have alittle problem with my truck, its paint on the top of the cab looks like its turning white. and I dont know if its oxidation or not but I have seen this on other chevys like mine and I am afraid of it spreading to the sides of the cab. I need to know how to get rid of it and make it black again. When I bought the truck it was all ready like this. I will get a pic of it tommrow to show how bad it is.

judging by the pattern it looks like a poor paint job that is slowly starting to fade and will more than likely begin to chip and peal as time goes on
have you tried polishing or waxing it? that might help bring the color back

I have tried to wax it but nothing. is the white able to be taken off, it feels rough to the touch. my brother says I might be able to buff it down to black then clear coat it. I dont know.

I'm not a paint guy but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express...
Try some Meguiars polish. Maybe start with M83 and move to 80. You might be able to polish down to black and then throw some wax on. Either it fixes it or it requires you to repaint it. Either way its not like that anymore.

Nothing you can do except repaint it.

How would I go about repainting just the top of my truck? should I get some sand paper and work up to a fine grit then use a spray can to paint black. then some clear coat? Whats the best way of using spray can paint and it still look half decent? This is a spot you dont usualy see since my truck is lifted but when I jump up in the bed It looks horrable.

Those year models were known for poor factory paint jobs. Your only choice, judging from the pics, is to repaint.

I dont want to repaint the whole truck. I think its paint is in great shape for a 16 year old truck. The paint on everything else is fine. I just want to repaint the top of cab. Thats its my paints real problem.

Well, I only meant repaint the top of the cab. And for what its worth, you had a paint guy tell you the same thing in post #7.

repaint the roof. your paint is ****ed. should cost any more than 150-200 bucks to have it done. needs to be stripped and redone. your clear is hazing and delamination follows shortly after that.

rattle cans will only make it look like rattle cans did the job. if you want it to look professional and decent, pay to have it done if you have 0 paint experiance:read:

in supplies you'll maybe have 150 bucks total. a quart of etching primer, quart of sealer, about a pint of paint with reducer, and quart of clear.
strip it with a DA and 180. then go over that with 320, then etch, seal, color, clear

I dont have the stuff to paint it myself like a spray gun. So how much would it cost to have a shop do it?

will get you better pic tonight. is what happen is my dad was using my truck to haul a big sand blaster and he accidently turned it on while the gun was laying on the tail gate it didnt dent anything but took off paint. thats was the last time my dad uses the truck! lol and I want to take off the big decal on the tail gate but theres old crummy paint underneith it so I need that redone. wanna also see how much repainting where the trim is cause I want to take it off too.
