Just curiuos on what peoples opinions are. On a larger subwoofer setup say 3+. Do you prefer one large amp or do you prefer a smaller amp for each sub.

View Full Version : one amp or several nebraskaz71 08-18-2007, 03:45 PM Just curiuos on what peoples opinions are. On a larger subwoofer setup say 3+. Do you prefer one large amp or do you prefer a smaller amp for each sub. ///M5 08-19-2007, 09:37 AM A smaller amp for each sub is dangerous, I would always use a single amp if possible. Mono in fact would be best. NateDiggity 08-20-2007, 07:37 PM I agree, its just more things to go wrong really.... and trying to match gains and crossover points, unless you have access to an O-scope, would be a pita nebraskaz71 08-20-2007, 08:08 PM very good points ///M5 08-21-2007, 10:19 AM I would also add that I would much prefer that the subs share the same airspace, having two independent airspaces can also create issues. When they are both in the same box the t/s parameters and such pretty much average out which in htis case is a good thing. nebraskaz71 08-21-2007, 12:37 PM really i've always heard seperate chambers is best unless its ported ///M5 08-23-2007, 10:30 AM You have always spoken to people that don't know what they are doing then. The only time that separate chambers should be used is if the drivers are playing different frequency ranges. In other words do NOT put your mids in the same box as your sub. NNBSSierra 08-23-2007, 10:32 AM If you havent gotten a sub yet go with Fi subs. And a sundown amp. I do love the new RF amps though cant beat thos for the price www.millionbuy.com Hope thats the right link Polecat 08-23-2007, 12:45 PM you can have many mixed emotions about woofer sharing common chambers, or having each in it's own seperate chambers. Neither is wrong, nor will hamper or extend output, IMHO, over the other. ///M5 08-23-2007, 01:47 PM you can have many mixed emotions about woofer sharing common chambers, or having each in it's own seperate chambers. Neither is wrong, nor will hamper or extend output, IMHO, over the other. True only if the subs are completely identical (and I don't mean just the same model) and the boxes are completely identical. Polecat 08-23-2007, 02:00 PM true, woofers sharing the same parameters. :) ///M5 08-23-2007, 02:02 PM Pull a couple off your line and measure them, the variance isn't trivial. nebraskaz71 08-23-2007, 02:26 PM good to know. Makes boxes a lil simpler haha vBulletin v3.5.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
