View Full Version : datalog/tuning options ? orange ss 08-28-2007, 06:36 AM what are the options for tuning/data logging a 1996 K1500...i know of TunerCat...but are there any more ? thanx DefEddie 08-28-2007, 04:37 PM Tunercat doesn't datalog. There is an aftermarket scanner made to work with tunercat called MXscan. It use's the TC box,but doesn't support 96/97 vortecs. I use Autotap to datalog usually. Tunercat is what you need to program it. EFIlive programmers started supporting the 98-99 truck's,not sure about the 96/97 trucks though. JET DST supports programming for yours, but it is simply the tunercats that JET licensed. To get TC now you must purchase it with the moates roadrunner. orange ss 08-28-2007, 05:45 PM HPTuners just released their 98+ Vortec software but they said they had no intention of releasing a 96/97 version, which i dont understand..PCM should be the same for 96-98 Vortecs right ? i asssume there are some OS differences but i cant imagine much... DefEddie 08-28-2007, 09:24 PM No,the entire language is different from what I understand. The 98-2000 used a different animal than the 96-97 though the programming and pinouts are basically the same. orange ss 08-29-2007, 07:57 AM ok so, what about swapping a 98 VCM in place of my 96 so i can have access via HPTuner.... DefEddie 08-29-2007, 07:29 PM If your going to do that,it would be not much harder and smarter to go with the 0411 PCM,which is the LS1/LS6 LS truck PCM. Check out pacificp.com/forum It's not hard to do,just need a PCM and the harness connector's for it. S10wildside on pacificp sells the connector's. I have the PCM pinouts if you need them, only take's a couple hours if you know how to do wiring. Then you aren't limited by tuning suites, you can tune with anything that tune's the LS engine's. You do have to use the .cal file from an Express van though. Read about the swap over on pacificp,i've got the pinouts and the .cal file you need to make it work. orange ss 08-29-2007, 08:01 PM cool, thanx...if you could send me the pinouts i would aprreciate it...what would the swap to an LS based controller entail? orange ss 08-30-2007, 07:06 AM and the 411 VCM should be any 01+ LS based VCM Pauly 08-30-2007, 10:19 AM All teh 411 PCM swap is in here http://www.pacificp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3240 You use a 411 PCM and then install a 2001-2002 Vortec 350/305 Express van calibration file and away you go. A modern PCM that is controlling teh Vortec engine. peace Hog orange ss 08-30-2007, 11:07 AM sweet thanx ! orange ss 08-30-2007, 12:25 PM didnt see any wiring diagrams or pinouts anywhere, are they buried ? DefEddie 08-30-2007, 05:12 PM Send an email to playtoy_18@yahoo.com I'll send them to you. orange ss 08-30-2007, 06:22 PM sent, thanx ramsden1 01-08-2008, 12:18 PM Hey, I'm new here, but what is the benefit of swapping to the 411 PCM in a 1997 Vortec 350 over using a handheld programmer or the Jet DST? Lextech 01-08-2008, 04:38 PM The 0411 has 2x the processing speed of the Black Box PCM. It also has Hi and Low octane spark tables so if the PCM senses knock it will start to bias the timing toward the lower table. It has Higher RPM capability and more tuning options.
