Hey guys,

Does anyone know what I can use to release the hydraulic clutch line from the slave cylinder on my '96 Silverado 2500, 5sp, 2wd?

Its got a NV3500 5sp tranny, and there is a special GM tool that is used to release the line, but I can't wait to order one.

It looks like this: http://inpcars.com/clutch-alignment-tools/spxcorporationotc-ca.jpg

Another question, the slave cylinder is inside the bell housing, so how do I access the slave cylinder to disconnect the line?

Do I have to disconnect the tranny, move it back while supporting it, and while the clutch hydralic line is still connected, then reach in to where the line is connected to the slave, and then disconnect it?

I'm swapping out my tranny, and this has me at a stand still. Can't proceed until I get that line disconnected.

Thanks,

modify an air tool wrench, or use 2 long screwdirvers to push the release while someone else pulls the line out

Very cool, thanks! I was just looking around for something to fabricate.

Couple more questions:

How do I know where the release is? Can I just push in anywhere, or are there specific spots that I need to push?

And can I access everything from the hole in the side of the tranny?

Thanks again. -Ed

look at the slave where the line goes in, you should see a white plastic ring around the fitting...that's the release...it works best to push in on the line to releave pressure on the mechanism then push the plastic release on two opposite sides (important if you use screwdrivers), then pull the line out...if it's the first time it's been disconnected it will probably be stubborn, just keep at it....good luck

Good deal! I'll go out there and give it a try. I'm by myself so this might be a bear, but I'm like a dog on a bone when it comes to stuff like this, so hopefully I'll be reporting back success.

Thanks!

Ka-ching! Its out, and I didn't even damage the plastic release ring. Thanks again, I can't tell you how much this helped me out. -Ed
