View Full Version : Shift Kit or will tuning be enough?

Im due for a transmission fluid change so i was thinking about doing the shift kit while im in there. However my buddy has a laptop with HP Tuners that im thinking about buying a lisence for. Would i be able to mess with the firmness in the tune? I know for a fact the torque management needs to go... My old 700r4 shifted so much smoother without that. The way my truck shifts right now is like it lets off before it shifts (enough that you hear a clunk sometimes) and then it shifts moderately firm. ... and i know this is exactly how torque management works.
I want firm and progressive shifts that put me back in the seat a little, but i do NOT want anything harsh. If it chirped 2nd WOT without shaking the truck id be very happy. I already have the corvette servo, and i like what that did but it still needs more help. Id rather not mess with the line pressure because ive heard that hurts your gas mileage. Weve never used HPTuners with an automatic so im not sure what we can do with it. Whatever the case, i want the hesitation and clunk on the shifts GONE.
opinions?

IMO a shif kit corrects whats wrong with the tranny to begin with. Get the shift kit. If you get the Transgo hd2 kit use the mild settings ie (one washer in the lower accumulator housing).
using hp tuners, start with stock line pressure(adjust according to your liking) then your shift points, torque management removal, etc. The hd2 kit will take all the slop out of the tranny. you will have quick, firm and crisp shifts. instaneous downshifts when you need it.

as do i , but breaking something in the trans will end up costing you atleast a G to have it rebuild right .:nono: not me.
