Got a 97 Tahoe with loads of beaten miles (she’s done her share of work and 4wheel fun), lil over 160k. So powers still good and all, but I want more. I've been toying with the idea of a stroker and most likely that will happen in time but for now I would like to do something with the injection. I seen a few things about retro fits but I was thinking more in the lines of tuned port injection. Correct me if I'm wrong about this but didn’t the 94-96 classic caprices and Impallas come through with tpi on the 5.7? Did they have the Electronic tranny the Tahoe has? point being I wonder if im going to get into serious trouble with a conversion like that. Any insight would be awesome, and if anyone has done one your nuggets of wisdom would be much appreciated.
Thanx

The 1994-06 Impallas and Caprices use teh same LT1 short runner intake the 1993-97 Camaros and Firebirds used. These intakes will NOT work on a 1996-2002 Vortec 305 or 350 engine.
TYour stock injection will feed up to 330 rwhp or about 400 crank hp.
You ca simply snip off the Vortec injection harness and spice in injector pigtails and then use teh Ramjet or Marine intake like I have or any carb intake converted to MPFI.
Here is ALL teh info you need for swapping a different intake manifold and injection onto your Vortec truck.

Here is a pic of the intake I am using.
http://www.sfatek.com/images/efi.jpg Notice the external fuel rails and injectors. Here is the stock injection AND teh marine intake side by side. Along with teh stock poppets and teh newer GM MPFI upgraded spider in post #9 http://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/showthread.php?t=356743
I wouldnt use the TPI intake as it doesnt flow that great at higher rpms.
The 4l60e electronic trans was used in 1993+ trucks and 1994+ cars.
Your stock PCM can be tuned to drive whatever injectors you wish.
The stock poppets are 19 pph at the 43.5psi test opressure but they flow around 22 pph at the vortecs 60 psi of rail pressure. The marine intake comes stock with 24 pph injectors which flow 28.3pph at the 60 psi of rail pressure.

What kind of abuse can the 4160e take? Shes starting to shift hard and wineds out a bit most likely from all the holeshots and towing cars and maybe from the donuts over the last 5 years. What ways can i go and how much? Thanx for the links.

as far as the transmission, contact monster transmission at www.eatmyshift.com they have a monster-in-box kit for the 4l60e. and if you want to convert to tpi, it can be done. it is designed to boost low end and considerin your truck it would be a good choice. it will take some work, but the major component is the base. scoggin dickey has a vortec base for tpi. other than that you can search for upgraded runners, plenums, and tb. would work well with the stock cam and a heavy truck. just get injector harness pigtails for whatever injectors you decide on. the fuel lines can be adapted over. have fun with it whichever way you decide to go
