For all you stereo guru's. I'm not into blasting my music so loud that you barely hear but I want to be able to turn it up when I want:D I'm not into stereos that much but, I was hoping you guys could help me out. I'm still undecided about the head unit. Probably a Kenwood, what about a set of 6.5 Boston Acoustic seperates up front, another set of BA seperates for the rear, 2 10or 12in BA Pro subs, and a pair of Kenwood Excelon amps(don't know about the wattage?) How would that sound?

I have all kicker stuff in my toyota, and I love it but

in my silverado Im going with Rockford Fosgate Subs, the new line is near perfection, they hit hard as hell, and work in small spaces.

Kenwood units are pretty good, you might consider getting one that plays mp3's off cdr or cdrw.

The new pioneer Im getting will have the mp3 feature, Im just waiting till they include it in one that has the flip out lcd screen.

Currently I have the Pioneer Gm sized cd player, rockford mids up front kicker tweeters up front, kicker impulse mids in the rear doors, and a punch 40a2 pushing them.

Yeah I like the decks that play MP3s but I have a couple hundred CDs that I've burned so its not that important to me. IMO not worth an extra $200 just because it plays MP3s. There is a deck in the Crutchfield catalog that I like but can't think of it now.

I have a Kenwood CD player XDC-917 that plays MP3's and burned cds, 2 Rockford Fosgates 10" HE2 subs, Rockford 500punchA2 amp to the subs, the new Rockford model amps 350.2 punch to my highs, Kicker tweets, Memphis Sound 6 1/2 3-way speakers in my doors, and Pioneer 4x6's in the upper rear corner panles. I am planning also purchasing a PA to make my system hit more harder.

The biggest thin that I look for in a deck is how "clean" it looks. I don't want a deck thats all clutter w/ $hit all over. Know what I mean? But I still want a deck that will perform well. What do you guys think of this Pioneer deck?

Thats the 9300. its a nice unit with 4v preouts. Im glad pioneer caught up with everyone with theire preout voltage. they used to be .5 volts. you should be able to get that unit for about 400 bucks ples shipping if you look around..They used to be prone to skipping at high volumes, but I heard they addressed this problem since I owned one,and you said you didnt want to blast your music anyway. So, that shouldnt be an issue. good luck with it if you decide to purchase it. The BA components are nice also, but i would stay away from the Kenwood amps. Only because for a few dollars more you can get better quality amplifiers like Phoenix gold, Arc Audio, Kicker, MTX, Precision Power, etc. it may seem like a few bucks up front, but the performance and reliability will deliver in the end. If you are going to run subwoofer(s), get a Class D mono amplifier. Cadence, Memphis, MTX, Mmats, etc. it will produce alot of power without straining your electrical system. i hope this helped. good luck and have fun
Steve

What woofer enclosure are you guys using in your new chevy's?

There hardly any room under that rear seat in xtended cabs?
Help!

Most of the truck I have seen w/ systems have custom enclosures. Thats what I would end up doing.

Heck theres plenty of room under the rear seats I can easily fit 2 12's under there, and 15's if I made spacers for the seats

It's not as easy as you think to get 12's under the rear seat. in order to get 2 subs with a sealed boxes, we still had to raise the seat 2" in order to have a place to mount the amps. there is no room under the from seats due to the power seat motors. check out 99firetrucks pics in this thread http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=289
it looks like alot of room until you build the boxes..

the guy thats building mine aint having a problem, and we wont have to raise the seat, 2 rockfords are going in it

amps are being mounted to the back wall, and the cd changer is going in the passenger side airbag bay

Ive got 2 12" Rockford subs under the rear seat with no modifications to the seat itself. Hey Funk, which line of Rockford's are you talking about?? I like my setup but will probably upgrade my system soon and would like something that hits HaRdEr :) I also have the Pioneer head unit 9200R and like it a lot. Have a adapter that plugs into the back of the cd changer controls for Auxilary input, which I use a Riovolt MP3 player... works very nice :)

Mathew,
any pics of your rear seat.
Im pretty limited, i do alot of hunting and fishing and take along a tool box with me whenever i go. I have to have some room under the seat for it so unfortunately i cant go with a large enclosure.

that's sweet! Did you make that box?

V6 Cruzer
08-28-2001, 05:15 PM
Nope, I had audio shop make it. That box has been modified twice because the Rockford HE2's competion subs wouldn't fit due to the huge magnet, so the back of the box has been fiberglassed.

The main reason we raised my seat was to have enought room to fit my 2 cadence amps, cap and wiring accessories in the center.

The subs would have fit it we utilized the center space for the enclosure but i did not see how i could fit the amp's on the back wall and still be able to folt the seat up, as it mounts almost flush against the back wall.

Here is my set up... I have 1 Kicker 10" solo-baric, zx460 kicker 4 channel amp, pioneer head unit with 6 disc CD changer. I designed and built this box, but had an installer friend of mine do the hookups and wiring. The box looked much better 4 years ago when it was done, but its now showing her age.... I plan on redoing it all soon again anyhow. If you will notice the seams above the CD changer. That is an access panel that my friend recommended I do for future changes and what not. The 4 channel amp powers my system by bridging two channels into the sub and the other two channels power my doors speakers. The 10 gives a great kick! People seem to think that they need 2 12s to get the bass.... not so! These small cabs don't need all that. I don't listen to loud bassy music all the time, I just really appreciate quality, full sound throughout the spectrum. But then again, I love Tool and the bass in their music, so when I need to crank it up, that one 10 can handle it! I have the sub facing up into the air space under the rear seat. This seems to give a deeper smoother sound in my opinion as opposed to the downfireing models that others use. Good Luck!
