4l80 is what I'm going with when i build my tranny. I have a CC and it weighs a lot.. plus i dont want to buy something that could break easy. I know first gear is gonna hurt me, thats about the only downside. any input?

Are there more serious performance mods planned for your future? For what you have, you can get a built 4L65E that will live a long time in your truck.

The 4L80E is the only choice when you get to serious power levels, but at the penalty of more drivetrain loss, a installation that is not a striaght forward bolt in, and the crappy first gear (which can be changed with aftermarket gear sets). I'm all for overkill, but IMO on a mild 5.3, use the money you would have spent on the conversion to get a quality built 4L65E.

Im thinking supercharger but in a couple yrs if i dont have a few grand to blow on a radix i'll probably just get the 4l65 and do full bolt ons, headwork, nitrous.

this is definitly going to be a long project, but i love it. my last car didnt have **** for aftermarket. chevys have everything.

which ever route you go, take care of the trans first. It's no fun not being able to enjoy your new mods because your stock trans let go right after you get them installed.
