need more speed

look ive got a 96 gmc short box with a 5.7 it tops out at a hundred. i def need to go faster to get away from the men in blue cause the truck aint quite legal. is there anyway to bypass the limiter or will i need a programer or somethin? cause the futer mods are a 383 with juice and a built trans and soforth any suggestions

programmer or a custom tune. If thats all you want, ck ebay for a used hypertech, should be around $200.

well first off it aint worht running from the men in blue you can not out run helicopters......plus more power will help but your a truck and unless you push some serois power its hard plus the shape your a moving BRICK....it does nnot cut the wind like a sports car....so that does not help either...but some advice keep the 100mph+ for track only it aint worth your life!

my 00 NBS ECSB with 5.3l 2wd hits the limiter at 97MPH.

You can outrun one or two men in blue, but you can't outrun the radio waves they transmit.
They don't have to chase you that far anymore, they have spike-strips, planes, or choppers (remember, the news hounds will chase you too)

well the thing is i live in the back woods of maine there arent realy heilos around here i just need it faster so i can get to the trails and get away from em ive done it in the 89 but the drive train was tweeked a lil i got stoped by a statey at 135 and he actually asked me why i stoped cause it took 2 miles for him to catch me :55:

These guys can set your speed limiter to whatever you want.


I have mine set to 255 mph using Tunercats OBD2 tuning software, I have pulled the truck up to 122 mph with 4.10 gears, I still had another 1600 rpm left but I was worried about the tires NOT being speed rated.

yea i know a guy with a 76 ford with a 460 and 2.70 something gears who had a slick come apart at 140 mph...scary stuff

my tbi stops the fun at 90mph its prety lame, it feels capable of som much more.

im not lookin to do this on a daily basis but runnin frum the po po is nessasary all i need to do is put some distance between me and them lol and only doin a hundred aint gonna cut it, thanks for the info:rocking:

on my truck it looks as simple as disconecting the cruise control because i think the throtal being cut it controled by the cable from the cruise control

its kinda scary. ive got mine up to 125. or thats what my friend told me, my speedo stops at 100 but the rpms keep going. he had a V6 eclipse and the speedo went to 140 on his. it was also about 330 in the morning and on a long highway. we were coming back from the drag races so it was only us on the road. it took for ever. but it can be done. i have a custom tune on mine.

yea, thats how mine feels if i slam it to the floor it will hit 90 at high rpms but if i give it the gas slowely(preventing it from downshifting) it weill slowely climb and i will be barely on the gas whene it stops me at 90. or if i floor it it will redline at 87mph, upshift and then cut my throtal. it pisses me off evrytime.
