Yes/ No? Will this 12499106 383 short block replace my tired L31 350?

http://www.sdparts.com/product/12499106/383ciGMPerformancePartsShortBlockEngineAssembly.aspx

Or is it an all together different block than my L31?

Is there any differences that GM has made to the 350 short block from 1970's to 1998 ?

Yes it will work on your truck. It is the latest rendition of the small block chevy motor. Not sure if it would accept the old mechanical fuel pump from the old days. I beleive everthing else would work.

You might also want to consider the HT383E which is a direct replacement for the L31 motor. I just bought one from Crate Engine Depot for $4200. It is much more complete than the short block you are looking at.

oh okay! thanks :)

well The reason i am only getting the shortblock is because I plan on adding my own set of aluminum heads for that extra power advantage, and they're lighter weight. I also want a little bit higher cam to make use of the aluminum heads larger intake runners.

I figure i am gonna use my stock vortec intake manifold with the newer injectors due to the fact that i Cannot find a marine intake manifold assembly anywhere.

someday!

Anyways now i know that i can order this engine! Good deal.

Ok that makes since. Make sure you get a cylinder head that will bolt up to the L31 Vortec intake manifold. GM makes a nice aluminum head that will work.

You may want to consider the ZZ383 longblock. Its basically an HT383 with 210cc inatke port volume aluminum Fasburn cylinder heads.
Rated at 425 hp and 460 lb/ft torque.

You will need to install the L31 cranshaft reluctor wheel for the crank position sensor to read.

I did that upgrade in my 99 Tahoe and have been very pleased with the outcome. Thing pulls like crazy on the highway and breaks the tires loose every chance it gets. Haven't gotten her down the track yet but I know she'll do way better than the 15.9 she ran with the tired 5.7.

I would have to put a 4L80e behind that ZZ383 am I correct?
A 4L60e wouldnt hold up as long I heard.

yeah loooks like you did what i want to do already.

Does your truck feel like an alltogether different truck than when you had 350 in it?

I want that ZZ383 sooo bad! The only thing is that I can see it the mileage going to **** and going through tires once a week.

what is the actual power gain between stock and ht383e. I hear so many numbers thrown around I wish someone had real world hp/tq results.

Do a search, Someone on here swapped the HT383E into a tahoe and dyno tuned it. Posted real numbers and charts. Something like 374 at the rear wheels if I remember correctly!

Wow! Impressive. Was that just on the motor itself?

this is estimated by desktop dyno at the engine with mufflers, if i have my cutouts open hp goes up 10 and torque goes up 20
