Ok I have been asking a few questions on here with pretty good feed back. Some may know I have a totalled 1997 tahoe but still has some good parts on it. I bought a 1990 c1500 350 tbi pickup for a daily driver. It seems the trans is going out of the in the truck it shifts hard from neutral in drive and from first to second it has to be almost at 4500 rpms before it shifts and same into third then the trans seems to fre wheel when you let off of the gas, so I am assuming it is shot.

Can I swap the trans out of my 97 tahoe 4wd into my 2wd pickup and if so what all has to be done. I can get compuuot and everything else I would need out of my tahoe thus it is a donor vehicle. Any input will help me out alot thanks guys !!

its basically all just bolt in...computer and all...just bolt it in and hook it up...providing of course that the Tahoe is a 2wd.

but, before you give up on the 700R4, you might wanna check your TV cable adjustment and make certain that the throttle valve IN the transmission (you must take the pan off to check) isn't stuck. my '83 had the SAME issues your's has, developed them right after wheeling and it turned out to be a stuck TV...just tryin to save ya some trouble...

I am willing to pull the pan tomm and check what you are tlking about just need to know what I am looking for. Also with just dropping pan should i go ahead and change filter and how much fluid should I have to put back into this tranny with pan being off?

4l60e has to be controlled by a pcm, won't work in your 90. Not to mention the fact that a 4x4 and 2wd trans won't interchange.

Thank you I am going to start adjusting and hope to save this 700. Also how many quarts should i need to put back in with the pan being removed i know the convertor will still be full just losing what is in the pan. How many quarts should i start with after my filter change tomm ??

if you do a search on adjusting the 700's cable you'll find plenty on it. basically, what you're SUPPOSED to do is press the little "D" shaped button (it SHOULD lock, mine didn't) and then slowly open the throttle all the way and release it (with the truck off) and it will "click" into place. with mine, it never locked (24 year old cable, ya know?) and i had to just hold the button, move the cable in and out and drive it until it was right. another way to know if your TV is stuck is if you are adjusting the cable and see no changes in shifting, shift points, etc...

as for the TV, just follow the cable inside the tranny...what i mean is, take the pan off and look at where the cable comes in...that's your TV that it goes into. i'm not really sure on how much exactly the 700 takes to refill (don't have my service manual handy) but a quick internet search will tell ya. you shouldn't have to refill the TC because you aren't draining it...
