Now that both insurance companies have looked at it I can finally start the rebuild! For those that dont know the story, look at the thread about it:

Muddychevy98 ( Ken ) came over yesterday after work, we inhaled a pizza and got to work!! Got alot done in a couple of hours. Took a couple of pics before we started.

You can really see the bend of the frame in this one. When we get the radiator out I'll be able to get better pics.

The friggin fender put up a heck of a fight. There is one bolt at the back corner by the windhield that you need the door open to get to. Couldnt open the door cuz the fender was bent. :whatever: Had to bend the fender way up to clear it.

So here's where we left it last night. Thanks for helping Ken!

Thanks, no it's not a real SS. The guy I bought it from had started the cloning process. He had swapped the buckets and floor console in and the cowl hood. When I'm done it wont be a clone any more. I'll have a real SS at some point not a faker. It will still have the buckets and definitely a cowl hood but more like being customized like we do to our trucks than being a clone. Gonna put the Malibu emblems back on it too.

And that fender took a good 30 mins to just get to the bolt to start getting it off, it defintely was a bish to get off. Took a lot of tuggin' and pullin'. But it was defintely worth all the work, Thanks again Jason for everything can't wait to come over and get my hands dirty again.

Yeah, my first three were Malibu's. I like the SS look but I'd rather it be a real one. Going to change alot with the rebuild. Not giving away too much yet but it definitely wont have the SS badges and stripes.

Seeing those pics makes me wanna cry - and it's not my car. I love Chevelles, and I've had three '69 Chevelles. The 69's are my preference, but any Chevelle from '66 - '72 is good in my book. None of mine were quite as clean as your's was (don't you hate that word 'was'), but they are still one of my favorite cars. Hope the rebuild goes well.

Dont know yet. I talked to a guy that used to own a body shop and he was telling me that if the damage was in front of the cross member it could probably be fixed if from there back was good. After I get all of the front end stuff off I'm going to take it to a few shops and see what they say. I have a few leads on a new frame in case I need to do that.

we had the heart and soul to that car. my brother bought a 1968 K20 that had an LS6 454 out of a '70 chevelle in it. great running truck, but i would have loved to have a chevelle to drop it in.

Thanks guys. A ls6 would be very nice, but the prices on those are through the roof. I looked at a couple of big block cars when I was trying to decide to rebuild or buy another but I drive mine every day that it's not rain or snow and they are not very gas friendly. ( especially not the way I would drive it :burn: ) My favorite year Chevelle is a 67 SS so my plan is to have one of those down the road.

If you think LS6 Chevelles are expensive, look at the GSX Stage 1 Buicks. Those are going throught the roof. Anyway, good luck with the ressurection, hope everything works out great for ya.

Yeah they made less GSX's so they are rarer. While I was looking I found a frame off restoration, low miles, all option etc. 70 ls6 convertable SS Chevelle for $200K!!
I came across a 71 Baldwin Motion SS car also that had about 30,000 original miles and the glove box lid signed by Rosen, the guy that ran the dealership way back when. It was listed for $250K!!
The performance dealer cars like the COPO's or Badlwin, Yenko, Nickey, Berger for Chevy, Mr. Norms for Dodge and Tasca for Ford are all rediculously priced now.

good to hear that your getting it all back together. Thats a shame that such a beautiful car got destroyed. Other than that everything else seems doable. Good luck with everything.

Quick update.
I sent the pictures of the frame to my insurance people and they want to come back out so that they can see it now that all of the sheet metal is out of the way and get a better idea as to the extent of the damage. The adjuster is coming out on Monday. Bad part about that is I was going to pull the drivetrain tomorrow but I think I'll leave it so that they can see how much the frame has shifted. Especially since they thought the only frame damage was on the passenger side. I'll let you guys know what happens

Actually the day we started he had been to the gym and done a pretty good arm work out so when we were fighting the bumper bolts that have had 37 years to get comfortable he was hurtin.

It is actually a Corvette color, 96 Quasar Blue.

I can work on it because it's mine. My insurance company is still working the under insured motorist claim to see if the amount I got from the other guys company is enough to fix it or get a comparable replacement. They havent said that's it's totaled so I havent had to buy it back.

Thanks. You are right on the wheels. About 10 years ago I was at my uncle's house geting some welding done and he had the wheels off of his 82 Vette. So for the heck of it I put them on one side of the 70 I had at the time.
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t23/tatoodkelt/chevelles/first70.jpg
I thought it looked pretty cool and it kinda stuck in my head. For a new set from some of the Corvette suppliers they are about $1300. Never had that kind of cash back then. Back around July I came across a set on craigslist and picked them up for $125! Bought some new center caps and repainted the black area's and finally got em on the current 70 about three weeks before the wreck.

Picked up an a like new radiator core support with the brackets that mount to the frame and grille, bumper brackets, bumper fog light assemblies, hood latch/release mechanism. He even threw in a pair of fender extension/head light housings that he didnt need any more. Got it all for $200!!I'll get some pics of the stuff later.

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but whats the specs on the engine? What cam are you running with the Vortecs?
Please let me know if you decide to upgrade the plug wire looms. I need something like those, just not new so I can powdercoat them.
Thats a nice car, and I'd look for a new frame. Chances are that its twisted throughout the whole car.
Good luck. If I were closer, I'd be wrenching on it too.

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but whats the specs on the engine? What cam are you running with the Vortecs?
If you mean the engine that was in the car, it's a remanufactured 350 crate motor for an 88 IROC Camaro. Not sure if they do any more but Pep Boys used to sell brand new replacement crate motor's. This was in about 96. I told them I had an IROC so that it would come with the newer style heads and a roller cam and lifters. Got just the long block minus the fuel infection. Threw on a 600 Holley, a Performer intake, Accel HEI Distributor and 1.6 roller tip rocker arms. When I put on the Vortecs I switched to a 670 Street Avenger. The cam is still the stock one. Very strong motor. Lots of torque. I'll have to find the dyno runs I have with it.
Please let me know if you decide to upgrade the plug wire looms. I need something like those, just not new so I can powdercoat them.
I probably will be running different looms when it goes back together. I'll let you know when I know for sure.
Thats a nice car, and I'd look for a new frame. Chances are that its twisted throughout the whole car.
Thanks, I'm taking it to a frame shop soon to see what shape it's in.
Good luck. If I were closer, I'd be wrenching on it too.

I had cut my old hood to be a functional cowl but the flapper ones that came on the cars from the factory are so much cooler.
As far as the tires, still trading messages. It's pretty annoying, but since it's a favor for a friend kinda thing I'm trying to be cool with him. Exactly. The way it sat before the wreck was 255/60/15's in the front and 275/60/15's in the back and air shocks of course. These tires were on the rims when I got em but when I need to replace the tires the front's will probably go down a little, like 245's and the back will go bigger. :naughty: I know a guy with a 70 that has 315's in the back but I'm not sure of his backspacing.

Go to any reputable tire shop, they should have a measurer that they can fit to a tire of your choice and bolt to your cars hub, so that they can see what kind of wheel specs you need to fit that tire in without major rubbing.
I can't remember the specific name of said device but i've used them to fit a 305 tire on a 76 or 77 monte carlo. My ADD is bad lately

The guys with the glass were sold out of windshields for mine. They said they could ship me one from there place in Minnesota but the shipping would be more than the glass! They'll be back in June for GM Carlisle so I'll grab it then.
I got the sheet metal stuff from Ausley's. I think that 's the one you were trying to tell me about. You said like 5 different versions of the name on the voicemail.
Yeah, they had 3 spots. 1 in the first row, 1 a couple up and one on the main field sorta by Bumper Boyz.

I've looked over both threads, and man that really does suck.. Classic cars is one thing that runs in my family, and i know if someone pulled out in front of my 67' Chevelle.. i'd have a very hard time not hurting them.. - and a side note u can find Ausleys online http://www.chevelle.com/catalog/ - they are located in NC, not but an hour n a half drive from me.. Ordered from them before online, and everything shipped out quick - Good luck with the rebuild - hope everything turns out good

Thanks man. Classics run in my family too. My dad has a 66 Stingray, my uncle has a 57 T Bird with a 427 side oiler from a Cobra, and I've had Chevelle's for the past fifteen years. Two 71's and this is my second 70.

Sorry, forgot to update. Found a guy with a full rolling frame, front disc brake setup just like mine, still with all of the brake lines, proportioning valve and fuel lines. He sent me some pictures on Sunday after he pulled the body and it looks great. Just some surface rust in places. It's actually a 71 GTO but all of the 68-72 GM A bodies used the same frame.
Only one thing.....
It's in upstate New York! Road trip!

That's the plan. I already know I wont be using the rear from the roller so I'll be able to move that along. Plus the disc brake setup on the front of mine looks like it's still good and that's a couple hundred dollars right there.

Its an original 67 SS car, however, the big-block has been removed i got it over 18yrs ago when i was like 3, all it had in it was the 396 Block, nothing else, ... lol it was my graduation present... - When my parents were building the new house, they brought a guy in to do all the drywall - and when he was finished all he wanted as payment was the 396 block out of the chevelle... needless to say my dad gave it to him.. We have a friend who builds motors for dirt-track cars, and he built the 350 that is in the car now.. Double Hump heads, 40over etc etc... but, thats the only thing that isn't still stock.. wish my father would have just kept the 396 block...

Got a love note in the mail on Friday from the City.
As part of the City's continuing effort to maintain the high quality of our neighboorhoods in Bowie, the cose compliance officers survey the city on a regularbasis to determine compliance with city code. As a result of this survey, the following voilation was noted:
Violation of City Code Chapter 26; Section 26-3: Inoperative vehicle. There is a rusted car frame in the driveway.
Chapter 26, Sec. 26-1. Definitions: "Inoperative Vehicle." A motor vehicle which is missing any of the following: engine, tires, steering wheel, transmission, windows, vaid license plates or is otherwise totally inoperable.
Basically I've got to until June 9th to get the frame out of site or I get a $100 fine and they tow it. I'm actually surprised it took this long for them to tell me, given the way they are around here.
