View Full Version : Just muffler swap??? 94transam25th 12-24-2007, 02:06 AM If i just cut out my stock muffler and weld a flowmaster 40 series in place would it even be much louder? or am i better off getting all the pipes bent? thanks, Brandon Tdoggstripes 12-24-2007, 02:14 AM Yeah it will be louder. I think the main reason people get new piping is because they want their exhaust to exit at a different place or they want a wider pipe. The stock pipes are already 2.5 inches I think and that's what most muffler shops will put on anyway when they bend it unless you request a wider pipe. stockchevy1983 12-24-2007, 06:28 AM only thing that is not 2.5 inches is my y pipe, or atleast mine isnt, i beleive its 1 7/8 dezert_rida 12-24-2007, 10:37 PM Yes it will be louder with a muffler swap only. On the V8s, look to get a 3" intermediate pipe from the Y pipe back and mandrel bent 3" tailpipe. This is the best overall combination for daily driving and fuel mileage. stockchevy1983 12-25-2007, 12:42 AM well i just installed new dual 2.5'' pipes and i have the single 3 inch tail pipe with tip, i jsut need a new y pipe made up. stock stuff is too tiny. plus my cats are shot Sinister Z71 12-25-2007, 09:31 AM The silencing power of a muffler is in the baffling that is welded up inside of it. These baffles make chambers. The fewer chambers that a muffler has, the less ability it has to silence exhaust noises, and the more chambers, the better job it does. That's why a flow master is 22 inches long and a stock 2003 Silverado SS truck muffler is 40 or so inches long and big around as the gas tank. stockchevy1983 12-25-2007, 12:33 PM ha my flowmaster is 6.5 inches long lol vBulletin v3.5.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
