Alrite, I'm looking at getting a Flowmaster exhaust system for my 04 z71 tahoe, and im kinda conserned about fuel efficiency, cause let's just say i aint made of money. Everybody knows that lifts and big ole tires kill your mpg, so i want to know about how much i'll gain from getting a system. thanks alot

Yeah, that is pretty much the norm for aftermarket exhaust systems.

alrite, thanks guys. now lets just say my truck gets about 15mpg stock, BUT i add a 6 inch kit with 35s AND i get an exhaust, And i get an intake, just ball park, where do you think that'll put my mpgs? i know these are noob Q's but heck, im only 16 and ya gotta learn eventually right! thanks

are you gonna re-gear with the lift and 35's? what gears do you have now?
i would say about 12 or so, if you re-gear you may be able to keep it up around 13-14.

MPG bolt-ons don't do much to offset the side effects of the oversized tires and lifted truck mods. You would think that if you do all these gas saving mods, that you could get away with some larger tires and not see much of a difference in your gas mileage. But it doesn't work that way. It has more to do with physics, mainly forces and principles that deal with rotational mass and acceleration. I could go ito great detail about this but the plain and simple is that the oversized tires with their extra weight and circumfrence will create a greater demand for power from your engine just to get the tires rolling. After that, rolling resistance and wind resistance helps to hurt the gas mileage. This all works to bring the fuel mileage down to that 10-12 range instead of maintaining the 15-17 area. I hope this helps explain it. The positive effects of the exhaust and intake system isn't enough to overcome the negative effects of the larger tires.
I am a fan of larger tires and some lift, but I also know that there comes a point where the tires get so heavy that the gas mileage takes a hit. A 31 inch tire might be pushing the limit, but a 35 inch give or take will definitely hurt the gas mileage.

The most important piece about the exhaust is the sound. And when it sounds good, it's hard to keep your foot out of it, and when you can't keep your foot out of it, your mileage sucks...

You're looking at maybe 1 or 2. Not bad, actually, considering it's fairly affordable, sounds good, and wakes up the truck a bit.

:word: Enjoy your truck, it'll get terrible gas mileage but they're fun as hell to have. You shoulda thought about mileage before you bought a truck anyway. :dunno:

9mpg is the best tank ive ever goten, iv averaged as low as 6mpg. once you see how much fun the truck will be you will realize its well worth the crapy gas milage. the way i see it, if you want good mpg, dont drive a truck. litle girls complain about gas milage, take it like a man and get yourself a badass truck.
o yea, and geers will be the best mod you will do for gas milage with 35s. but evry truck needs a loud exhaust even if it dosent help fuel milage, it cant hurt it thats for sure
