Can anyone tell me where I can find the hood hinge deflectors for 73-87 chevys? I tried classic parts(formerly Chevy Duty) but they said they were discontinued. I am working on a frame off build of a 1986 longbed any hep would be greatly appreciated.

yea, i'm kinda confused on that one. i will go look on my truck tomorrow and see if i can't figure it out. my truck is basically all original still, if it had it, my truck probably still does...

hood hinge deflector is the rubber boot under the hood hinges. My truck was missing them when I got it though. I hope they are still being made.

go to your local dealer, stuff like that is cheap and most of the 73-87 parts are still available.

Is it part #15 mabee:dunno:
LMC has a lot of parts, you could almost build a compleat truck with the parts they have

Nope that's just a normal hood bumper. I think I know the part he's talking about now if 86trix is right on what a hood deflector really is. Mine has those.

yep, the GMC has 'em. here's a pic to eliminate confusion...

the part is actually listed in the LMC catalog...but it's blurred out, as in, they don't carry it. it's on page 33, in the top right corner, under hood components for the 1981-87 models...

I had those on my '86. I took them off when I reverse flipped the hood. Might still have them in the shed.

Ok, well since we're on the topic of deflectors and water... Do y'all have a hood to cowl seal/weatherstrip? I don't have one, but I ordered one off ebay for like $20, so I hope it fits and actually does something. Only thing I can think is it will keep leaves and crap out of the engine compartment. Pics would be great. Thanks.

it's worn out and in need of replacement (hey, it's a 24 year old piece of rubber...) but it's still there. and yea, i'm missing my hood insulation. the original stuff was hanging down so it was removed. it will be replaced when i start putting more money into the truck in '08.
couldn't really get great pics, had to take close-ups so you could see it. BOB (Bright Orange Ball) was in my way so i had to edit the pics to make the seal visible...so that's why they look weird...ok, enough with the disclaimer...here's your pics...

Ok, cool. Mine is on the way, and when I looked a couple days ago, I think I saw holes in similar locations, so hopefully it'll be easy to put on. And as far as your hood liner goes... I bought one on ebay from the seller "firstclassparts" for about $40 shipped and it fit perfectly. Way better than the universal hood pad I had gotten before from LMC. I don't see any for your model listed right now, but you may try contacting them if you wish to go that route. Thanks for the pics!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I'm going to a cowl eventually too, but it's one of the last things after I get all my other projects done...

That I'm not sure of:dunno: whatever is cheapest probably! Most likely 3" so that it would be a good medium. I've actually considered concocting a shaker set up, but that's just dreamin'

yea, i'm goin with a 3" myself. LMC seems to have steel cowls pretty cheap...

those are reflexxion steel hoods. i'll bet you can find them locally cheaper. we can get them all day long around here for $330 with no shipping charge.

Can anyone explain why a stock hood from LMC is $160 and a cowl hood is $400? That's a hell of a price jump for a little raised cowl.

just because it's a custom hood. cowls have always been pretty darn expensive...

Ya see, I had a feeling I should've looked at these pics again before I put the new seal I got in today on, but I didn't and if your seal it installed correctly, then mine is backwards, because the thick side is closer to the front. It looks like it's installed correctly and I'm pretty sure it's sealing, but I'll just have to wait a couple days and look at the creases in it to see if it's actually sealing.

well, mine was installed in May 1983 by the General himself. it's never been removed...so i'd guess mine is on right...but with GM who knows...
