Hey all ... Saturday I started hearing a rattle coming from underneath my truck, and it turns out it's not the heat shield - it's the catalytic converter itself!
By the way, I've got a 1997 Chevy K/1500 W/T, RCLB.
I've called Midas, and they want $850-1000 to put in a direct fit replacement, and because of the 4wd, they're not sure they could even put a universal in.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks!

I paid 60 dollars to have my cat welded in and to have some of my pipes repaired. For the cat itself I paid 61.75 shipped from Performance Curve for a spun metallic unit:

Works great for me :)

Now to just find a place around here that'll do it - most of them say that the way the exhaust is routed, it's cheaper to go direct replacement rather than welding in a universal - ug.
