He likes to break down on the weekends alot. Now he's doing it in sets, last time he ran outta gas and shorted out had to get him towd twice and buy a new negative cable. This time Wensday he ran out of oil and over heated, so I had to buy 5 qrts and a lower radiator hose plus antifreeze.
It was around 7pm I was on the highway headed to a grievance had to be there byu 8:40pm and I remember the sound from the blazer I had and buy the time I got to the right offramp it died right at the light. I work at UPS Worldport. So even though the off ramp is obviously a down hill the truck wanted to roll backwards like trying to go up it, I couldnt push it so a mexican in a tiny Isuzu or Nissan 5speed pick-up pushed it in second gear to which the crunching sound of it's plastic grille was heard from by bumper beinig a tad to high. He got it up to I would figure without a working speedo about 15mph so I could coast into the wafflehouse parking lot about 1000 and ½ feet away. From there I walked about a block and a half down preston to my g/f's sister's house to use the phone and my lady was over there too. Got a ride from her sisters g/f to work from there the grievance meeting ended up canceled got out at 11 sumthin.
Waited for my mama to pick me up after she got lost and went to the wrong gaurd shack(longr story). We went and bought some oil thank god unlike the blazer it tried to turn over so oil helped it run. With what was left of the coolant she had limped to work, locked the keys in the ignition. had to spend like 20minutes after work arond 6am with a coat hanger to open the vent window. Limp to the closest gas statiom buy a jub of water cause I only had 4bucks with me and had to fill it up at guesstimated intervals cause guages dont work. plus it would die at a redlight so I had to pop it in nuetral and tap the gas. I finaly earlier today got the right radiator hose(18 ****in bucks) and Im still probally gonna driver her car to work like last night. Because she has a working radio/CDplayer lol!

sounds like a prime candidate for tupperware taillights.
also sounds like you need to be a little more selective in your truck purchases, and take better care of them after purchase. theres no way you can run out of oil and antifreeze if you're paying any kind of attention at all.

Agreed with the Dog, especially on the maintenance part - how do you run outta oil and not notice it man? If you're burning that much You'd see blue clouds of smoke every time you fire up the truck and/or hit on the gas, if tis leaking you'll for sure see the puddles when you drive off. My truck burns some oil, so I check the level weekly, never dropped more than a quart low.
Also, for when you lock yourself out the truck, use a small knife on the vent windows, alternatively s piece of thin and like 1/2"-wide metal strip will work too - coat hanger is too fat and too flumsy.

yea man, sounds like "she" just needs some TLC. you can't expect these trucks to run forever with no care of any kind. my brother in law does that and i'm just steadily watching his once-pristine '92 F150 get ran into the ground. it's had bad intake gaskets for over a year and a half...despite me urging him to let me fix it for him. it idles at like 2,000 RPM...seriously.
anyway, not to get off track...i think you should keep the truck and just do the basic maintenance and have yourself a NICE truck...but if you aren't, at least try to sell "her" to someone who will...please?

So lets just recap the situation shall we?
You're driving with faulty (AND handicapped) brakes, no oil, and no antfreeze...
Do yourself, and everyone else on the road, a favor and buy a Schwinn. The maintenance will be much easier for you to handle, and you'll be less likely to kill yourself... or worse, somebody else.

I know it sounds bad. The truck was used and it ran fine when I got it. it doesnt burn oil its got a slight leak right above the filter. I take way better care of this truck than I did my SUV I had. Only thing is Till I find a second job some of this stuff is gonna have to wait. Im no dumbass, just relly poor lol. I'm trying hard to keep it on the road. Turns out after buying 2 jugs of coolant and a hose, its the effin waterpump thats bad. How much do those run gimmie an estimate or like a between this and this. And I dont see anything feminine about Rawdawg, I consider him a senile old man. Maybe it liked living in Indiana better.

well, i was going by the fact that most heterosexual men name their trucks girl names or consider their trucks as girls. guess you're one of a kind, huh?
if you take care of this better than your old SUV then i'd be scared to see what shape that SUV was in. the water pump should run you about $30 not including gasket sealer (figure in $3) and new coolant (figure in about $10) so you're looking at just under $50.
i know what it's like being really poor, i am myself right now. my truck got about a gallon of gas from a milk jug for Christmas, to get her back home. now after payday, i could only afford to put $15 in her...and i have about $5 to my name right now. but, soon i'll be getting my VA disability check and starting college (GI Bill FTW) so we should be fine on money, then i'm gonna be starting a lot of "CHECK OUT THE NEW $H!T I GOT FOR MY TRUCK TODAY 56K KISS MY MONKEY ASS" threads...lol
we all know what it's like man, we've all been there. there is just certain things you CAN'T neglect. now, to prove i'm not "Holier than Thou", i once drove a '79 C10 with Corvette 327 and 3 on the tree for a week with NO BRAKES. the MC was totally shot and i had NO MONEY...i just downshifted and anticipated stops, and i had a decent e-brake. heck, i even rested my foot on the brake pedal when stopping so i still had brake lights. did it get the job done? yep, sure did...was it smart? HELL NO!

if it took 5 quarts of oil, you're dealing with more than just a little leak.
i've driven several trucks with no brakes too. blew apart the rear wheel cylinders on my 93 C1500 (blew apart the cast iron casting, not the internals) so i drove 20+ mi home with no brakes at all. several others went a few days with a plug in the MC rather than a brake line. at least i had front brakes there.

i got to agree with the others here man. I consider my truck like part of the family, if family gets sick you get them meds and get them fixed. I wouldnt be driving my truck if the brakes were a slight bit questionable. These trucks are awesome. No other vehicle i have ever bought stuff for has been so cheap. I just redid my mc, all pads, front calipers, wheel cylinders, drums all brake lines, spliters, i mean everything brake related for 65 bucks brand new. Hell the pads for my gf toyota cost that almost....im poor, so thats really not an excuse, if you cared about it youd fix it, bottom line. Im not trying to be a jerk man but 5 qts of oil is insane to lose..Hopefully this wakes you up and you take better care of this truck. my feelings are the truck never gives up on you so why are you giving up on it?
I am not trying to be an ass or holier then thou, but sounded like you were trying to brag " how tough my Raw Dawg is"

Hell, I have a fleet of six that I maintain and I'm the only driver. I have the five mentioned in my sig plus a '81 Harley. Until Saturday, when I started restoring the '87, they were all road worthy.
If you're not going to maintain your ride, I don't care if it's a rusted out Civic or a tricked out Tahoe, get it off the road for the sake of yourself and those around you. Vehicle maintenance is always a justifiable expense.
Sorry, dude, I wouldn't feel the slightest bit bad for you when your truck finally does die. Trucks are like loyal hound dogs. They only turn on you when you turn on them.

there is this old commercial (from 1987) about Chevy trucks and the headline is "Tougher Than A Junkyard Dog". i'd love to find that commercial again. MATTMC has it in his collection, gonna have to get him to post it. it shows a red '87 K10 (i think it's a Custom Deluxe) LWB...

I have a mustang too so I know about fords breaking down. All I do is drive the truck, rarely oon the interstate I dont dog the dawg at all, its just old and the under-the-hood stuff is old and tired. I had decided to fix everything that could likely break after the waterpump, the brakes and then a new altenator and oil sending unit. It has a gradual leak where I guess every two months I haff to add oil, good thing I didnt buy Royal Purple. It needs new steering box and dampner and some fluid. After winter if nothing brakes down whilst I repair these things I might keep it or get a Crown Vic as much as I love offroading this truck might need an engine overhaul. Oh and I'm not heterosexual; even if, I cant see anything girly about the truck or any fullsize truck for the matter unless your idea of a woman is Roseanne or this one manly woman who's had walk-on roles on sitcoms since bout 94 and appears to have not aged at all who's name escapes me.

This thread just went from a serious, common-sense post to a totally hilarious post. He told us that he was "not heterosexual" very directly. He didn't beat around the bush.
We probably ought to cut him some slack. I don't think he is gay if he went to his girlfriend's sister's house after the truck broke down.
No hard feelings man.

i had a 93 5150 if that counts i had it for 3 months before i had no choice to get rid of it. The unverisal joint gave out chewed up both ends, it was pretty much trashed and wasnt worth repairing.
If its that bad of shape then you shouldnt have it on the road. My 84 serria i took up the road to do get the tranny seal replaced, i ended up doing alot of body work, The seal, and rebuild the carb, The only thing i had left to do with it was the exuast and have it painted, But i couldnt afford to keep it so i sold it. First thing the summer im buying another 73-87 Gm truck,
bottom line if you cant afford to make it drivable dont drive it.

These trucks are really cheap to maintain. For example, I just rebuilt my throttle body for less than 20 bucks. This coming from a guy who supports his wife and two kids. So I know what poor is. Yet I still manage to maintain my truck. It's all about saving and having a plan. Just be smart about it.

HaHaHa Im not gay. And Im not coming out of the closet. I consider my truck a dude and my Mustang is a chick. But I guess if you like bbw's and ssbbw's sure you can call my truck a chick. 87 Classic you probally make about 10+ an hour during an 8hour day I make 9.50 during 3hours a night at UPSWorldport. Peakseason was the closest ever to seeing almost 300buck check. I plan on buying a waterpump this paycheck, having my brakes checked and next paycheck getting a altenator just because I think at over 100,00 miles this truck probally is just needing an overhaul. I do have a savings plan kinda, out of a 150 buck check pay for repairs, try an keep gas, and skip out on helping pay for its insurrance which jumped up to 200 somim a month. best bet is to either get a second job or find a better fulltime job aggreed?
