If your looking to make the most HP long tube is the way
to go. They get to take advantage of the better scavenging
and exhaust gas flow provided by the long tube.

I am using Hooker 2462 1hkr on my 1997 truck, they are designed for your truck however.

The longer primary tubes promote better scvenging, or the exhust pulses trvelling through teh primary tubes actually PULL the exhaust out of the chamber thus evacuating the spent gasses better. Shorties will help, but the tuning effect isnt as pronounced as logtubes. Dont go too big on the primary size. I suggest 1 1/2"-1 5/8" for your 350.

I noticed bettr low rpm torque and better high rpm power. PCM tune and LT headers droppe dmy 1/4 mile times by 3/4's of a second.

sorry but.. any actual numbers? ive seen a few dynos on short vs long.. and shorties did better from 2800-3000 up..

ive been wondering how the graph looked for a 350

shorties are almost a must in states with tough inspections.. but theyre talked down on so much on this site..

thanks

I like my ceramic-coated mid-length Thorley's... I needed/wanted a wider power band of efficiency on my DD that sees towing duties - stock manifolds and head pipes were pretty restrictive on the OBS. Going with the mid-lengths allowed me to replace both restrictive areas without losing the ability to operate factory emissions equipment (EGR, cats, and O2 sensors).

What are you looking to do with your truck (application wise - race, tow, daily driver)? The answer will determine which would be better for your use.

I think shorties are only talked down on here by the '99+ guys because the factory manifolds are better than the '88-'98 trucks, they're almost a shorty right from the factory. Shorties will definitely help an OBS truck because of the log-style factory manifolds.

Very true...shorties will definitely wake it up and go with a bigger Y pipe...the stock pipes are dinky small.

If by "newer truck with a vortec" you mean a pick-up that is 99+, then you will need to go with LTs to notice any difference. 88-98 trucks are considered OBS and will benefit from the shorties, mid-lengths, or LTs.

Thanks for serving. :patriot:
