Well, I also saw about 5000 ducks and geese (I have to drive by a wildlife reserve to get there). Now that I have your attention, what caused me to write this thread is that coming back into a headwind, my 87 305 tbi 4x4 really struggled. It didn't want to stay in 4th. I know I need more power and I happen to have a 78 350 laying around with 882 heads on it. I opened Desktop Dyno and played with cams a little and came up with something the will go a long ways toward giving me more power on my meager budget, but i do have a few questions.

1. on the 78 350 block where would I put a knock sensor?

2. I plan on using my tbi and manifold with bigger injectors, can I just redrill the manifold to fit the older style heads?

3. The sensors for coolant temp and oil pressure that the instrument cluster use are mounted in the block, and since the 350 is about 120 miles away right now I can't look at it, will the stock sensors have approximately the same positions in the old block as they do on the 305?

I am looking at the comp 12-412-4 cam to maintain california smog, although I live where I don't need semi-annual smog right now. I know it will take some reprogramming, as I will mildly port the 882 heads, do ultimate tbi mods and add full length headers. I am going this route because it looks like I can just hone the cylinders, polish the crank and do a cheapo rebuild ( I know, I know but the budget just will allow so much, and this is stretching it as is) new rings, bearings, seals and gaskets, oil pump, timing set and cam aren't free, but if I don't get crazy, by the time the snow is gone it will be ready to drop in the truck.

OOPS my bad, I posted this at 4:30 in the morning while sucking down a glass of Jim Beam, and thought I was posting it in the technical forum. If the Moderator would move it there, it would be fine by me, it really doesn't belong here. I will have plenty of questions here later, Jan I will get my programming stuff to start modding my chip

1.Knock sensor can go in the same place it is now.

2.Changing the bolt holes is a PITA, but can be done. I did this on my truck. I used a gasket as a template to determine where the holes needed to be. Then filed out the holes to the new angle. Then using a waxed drill bit as form, I filled what was left of the old hole with JB Weld. Then I used a dermal to cut the land down to the new angle. I had to test the fit many times during this proses.

3. The coolant temp sensor is installed in the head. Some heads have different size holes. If yours doesn't fit you can probably find one that will at the auto store. The ones for gages are different than the ones for lights though. The oil pressure sensor will probably fit in the same location, if not you may be able to use the sensor and fitting from a 4.3L S10. It mounts the sensor just behind the intake.

Thanks, I may get an extra manifold to do this on, then if i mess up no problems, and if i get one off a 350 i will get the tb as well with the correct injectors.

Lots of snow here and its really cold here right now, so I don't really want to go open the hood on the truck, but later this week, I will be in there working on it, and this weekend I will start on the other block.
