'04 Silverado bench seat armrest/storage sticking

Howdy. I have an '04 Silverado LS ex. cab with the bench seat. My center fold down (armrest/storage bin) has been getting harder and harder to open. When I wrestle it open, I can see on pressing the release button that the hook is sticking, not releasing the upper lid. I have to jam that thing hard like five times before it creaks open. I'd like to get into where the mechanism is, but the only screws I see are some crazy safety screws at the back of the unit. I don't have anything that fits those. But, I thought maybe there is another way to access the mechanism area without removing those.


Any help would be great!
