Finally got around to (trying to) install my rough country 4" spindle and ran into a bunch of problems.

First off the front shock won't come off no matter what, the nut is seized to the stem....next the two nuts holding the brake line on the upper control arm are rusted and destroyed, they're not coming off...then I couldn't get the cotter pin out of the upper ball joint (rust again), so I broke it and drilled it out..ok so all I needed to do was remove the lower ball joint on the castle nut and I could finally put the new spindle on. NOPE! after cleaning it up with a wire brush I first noticed the cotter pin wasn't going to come out. Whats worse is the nut has literally fused to the ball joint threads...what a mess. I screwed around with it for about an hour but ended up putting it all back together before I did any damage.

So now it looks like I will have to take it to a shop, I'm sure that lower ball joint will need replacing...by the way this was just the drivers side haha. I just needed to vent  ...off to the auto shop after new years I guess, I really want the lift on!

Anyone have a shop install their lift kit? what am I looking at for price..I would guess $600-$800..??

word man i ran into problems

thats how it is on older trucks though

if something didnt go wrong you aint doing it right lol

my shocks were hard to get off to i used a 24 inch extension to undo the top bolt and a pipe wrench on the shock istelf to stop it spinning

:word: My brake lines one both sides ended up being a little too tight for my/their liking, so I had to take the mount off the UCA, move it forward a couple inches, and I just zip tied it to the UCA, because I didn't feel like getting out the drill. They would have eventually been rubbed through if not... I also put loom on ALL of the ABS and brake line, just to be safe (I had about 10 ft. left over from some stereo stuff). Sounds like you ran into some stuff a little more serious though  . Oh well, at least you'll know it's all new/good now.

another problem you might run into after the spindles are on is the caliper hitting the steering stop. Thats what happened on mine and after a few days of wondering what was going on with the mushy brakes when I turned hard I removed the steering stops and it turns really good now with no brake pressure loss. I'd go ahead and replace everything you can while you have it apart. Broken ball joints suck and if those are stock and you are modding the suspension its not a bad idea to slap some fresh ones in to be on the same side.

It's pretty frustrating but oh well. I'll look into the shop to install the front, the rear blocks I'll do myself...wouldn't be a bad idea since they can align it right there (saves me driving and chewing up new tires).

I think the way to get the lower ball joint loose is to drill out the cotter pin, soak in penetrating spray, heat it and just crank with a big ass breaker bar. I think it would snap the threads though...It should really be replaced.

my lift and repairs was 840... you should be out the door for 500 at most...
