Well, regardless of what engine you have, don't remove the cats. Just get a louder muffler(s). Putting on a larger tip will also make it a bit louder as well.

:word: you will hate yourself later, and if you ever have to go thru emissions it will be $$ to buy new cats, plus if you already have true duals, you're running the cats half as hard. i doubt you would get any real performance gain from removing them, i removed the cat on my honda civic for a about a month, and all it did was make my exhaust sound like Ultra Mega Super Duper Ginormous High Yield Fart Nuke, luckily i could just bolt it back on since it isn't welded into place like an FSC

Me too. Way too raspy. Replaced the cat as soon as I could.

you guys are crazy, cats and egrs and all emisions controls are useless. if you hate the rasp then get a real long glasspack and you wont have rasp, i personaly think that my raspy sounding true daul flowmaster sound realy good. h pipe is a realy good idea with true dauls also. and the reason your honda civic sounded bad withpout a cat is because a honda civic just sounds bad. it just sounds even worse with no cat.

Just to echo...
Pre-96 trucks were TBI
96+ trucks are Vortec
Keep the cats - regardless of engine size (we all need to breathe) :justin: Not to mention that it is a FEDERAL offense (big $$$) if caught without cats.
Magnifying a bad sound does just that... most 4cylinder engines are not known for a good tone.

He said it already has NO mufflers. Short of bigger tubing it probably wont get much louder. About the backpressure question, an engine doesn't need backpressure. It needs scavenging.

cut them before the axle and turn them down. i had a single flowmaster 50 turned down wich is a quieter muffler and it was about as lod as my 40s with the tips out the back. turn downs will make them WAY louder

This sentence was the funniest thing I've heard in a while.:LOL: I needed that after today.:LOL:
I'm going to have to agree with TigerEyz3. We all breathe the same air and so will our childrens' children. Keep the original cats or get high flow ones or something but whatever you do, keep them.
