hey guys, i haven't used this forum for a while but i missed it so i came back! anyways my question is i have a 1998 chev 1/2 ton ext cab short box. and i love it but i wish my rear view mirror would show the temperature, cuase all it shows is the direction for heading (north south west east). but when i start the truck and the display on the rear view mirror fully lights up. it shows a temperature reading is programed... it has a 'degree' symbol... but it never shows temperature and the buttoms on the mirror don't change anything... so i am wondering 2 things! 1... is am i missing not doing something right on my mirror to show the temp? is it broken? and also number 2... would it be possible to swap rear view mirrors from a 2000 chev that has kinda the same rear view mirror (except it shows if its icey, along with the temp and the direction)? can i just pull out the old one and put the new one in? where are the sensors to read temp? both have a peice the run from the rear view mirror into the head liner... is there where the sensors are? i guess in short. if i swap rear view mirrors will i get the temperature reading on my mirror that i want? without ripping out the headliner? or how would you go about doing this?

the mirrors will interchange as long as the have the same type of mounting screw and there is a sticky on the interior section of this forum where they talked about abunch of this stuff

but will changing the mirror mean that it will show the temperature? where is the sensor that tell the temp?

i dont know where their mounted from the factory but most guys who have added it to their vehicles mount them behind the grille

HUH? what i am asking is if the temperature sensor is in the rear view mirror? if i just swap mirrors will it change from just showing the direction to showing the temp and the direction? or how would i go about doing that swap?

You will need to add two wires to your harness and the temp sensor on the raditor support for the mirror to work. You also need another mirror.

the other mirrow is not a prob... but what about wiring for the temp sensor... do i have to run it or plug it into something?

You need the temperature probe and you need to run the two wires to the mirror. There is a huge sticky that has all the info you would ever need.
