View Full Version : OBS Suburban Cat Back Questions...

I have looked and searched through the forum and have not found much on exhaust recommendations and horror stories with the OBS Burbans. I have a 94 K1500 Suburban with the 5.7L. All stock except for ignition upgrades and a TB spacer. I have 150k on the odometer and the muffler has a hole in it... plus it sounds like a wheezing goat. Perfect excuse for a exhaust upgrade. Replaced the Cat and y-pipe a few years ago so now just need a cat back system. I have used Flowmasters before, love their tune but open to other ideas. Also live in the soggy northwest so corrosion is a concern. Bottom line is that I am looking for a system that will open the exhaust up... give me some nice rumble but not something that is going to give me drone or cause me not to hear my cheap @ss stereo.

Thanks for your input.

The exhaust choices for the OBS suburbans are the basically the same as for the Tahoes/Yukons... just different lengths. In all of your stated searching, you're sure to have read many posts regarding the Tahoe/Yukon (same open cabin design as the Suburban) and the muffler/tip exit options that generated more/less interior drone.

That stated, my personal suggestion would be to go with a SS product - regardless of selected brand. They are less susceptible to corrosion compared to the aluminized mufflers.

I've personally had good experiences with a Flowmaster muffler (DeltaFlow 50/SUV 2.25" DI/DO - custom bent piping) and now a Magnaflow cat-back (15701 - 2.5" DI / 3" SO).

The Magnaflow is quieter at cruise compared to the Flowmaster and has higher flow rates (less restrictive). Both talk nicely under throttle. Those are the only two I've had personal experience with. However, I've read good things about the: Hooker Aerochamber, FloPro, and SpinTech mufflers (not to mention Corsa and Borla).

Good point on the Tahoe and Yukons... that helped refine the search to something more manageable. I should have thought of that one... used to have a Tahoe. That did provide some useful info.

Thanks,
