View Full Version : Noisy vent windows Bullitt 01-03-2008, 03:49 PM I have an 87 and was wondering how to deaden the sound from the vents. Thanks for help. TINY'S97 01-03-2008, 04:52 PM do you use the vents at all? if not you can open the vent and run a bead of silicone in the gasket then close the window. Bullitt 01-03-2008, 05:15 PM I use em once in a blue moon. I might do that though. Im not sure if I dont wanna be able to not open them though. Thanks. BHB 01-03-2008, 05:34 PM Replace seals and vent latches. Redbird 01-03-2008, 06:01 PM Replace seals and vent latches. That's about the best way. The "good news" is, if you plan to replace them soon, you can glue them shut in the interim. Because you're going to replace all the seals that you glue closed. Old88 01-03-2008, 06:10 PM Put a penny under the latch A nickle will work for one that's really worn my $.02 retired wrench 01-03-2008, 06:45 PM The bottom pivot isn't rusted off is it. Mine were. RW Dale87chevy 01-03-2008, 07:03 PM Put a penny under the latch A nickle will work for one that's really worn my $.02or $.06 lol...my drivers has a penny...but going to replace the seals soon Jaymez 01-03-2008, 07:28 PM The other option is to remove the vent windows altogether. It's a cleaner look, I think, but not worth the $600 price tag for the kit I found. Bullitt 01-06-2008, 04:37 PM That would make the windows almost as much as the truck. JaxRhapsody 01-06-2008, 11:15 PM I like the vent window. the windows big enough as it is, anyway. modular93fox 01-07-2008, 09:33 PM i went down to homedepot and got some thin foam... its gona be a "picture's worth a thousand words", with that being said, this mod i did really helped out a lot! not 100% quite, but a vast improvement. il take pictures tomarrow and post them along with a picture of the product. clint oh yeah, the product costs 4 bucks Ravynia 01-16-2008, 12:07 AM The bottom pivot isn't rusted off is it. Mine were. RW Mine is... rusted/sheered right off... my husband says I'm going to have to take my door apart to fix it. I want to have all the parts I need before I start. spr85gmc 01-16-2008, 11:22 AM The bottom pivot isn't rusted off is it. Mine were. RW x2 where can i find the new frame for the window it litterally just hang there and pisses me off. unless i lock my keys in the truck it makes it easier to open it but lets just keep that our secret mmmmmm ok 87 Chevyrado 01-19-2008, 06:51 PM I've sealed em shut on every one I've had. Only problem was in my 87 I was drunk as hell and my buddy was drivin, and I forgot it was sealed shut and got pissed cuz it wouldn't open (and had nothing better to do since he was driving) So I started playing with it.. then I forced it. I was pushing the handle hard and then the handle and all the glass went right out on the road...lol But when I got another window I sealed it up too...lol It made it much quieter. The ones on my 78 aren't bad yet, but when they do, I'll seal em up too. Ravynia 01-19-2008, 07:22 PM I've sealed em shut on every one I've had. not an option for me. I just went from a 1994 Jeep Wrangler with a soft top... ANYTHING is quieter than that. My parent's truck has working wing windows, and I'm determined to make mine work too. I just dunno how yet. LOL GreaseDog 01-19-2008, 10:07 PM mine are noisy, and the pivots on my 80 are rusted out. that's why i keep a stash of door guts. vBulletin v3.5.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
