When I install the the spindle/knuckle, the instructions say to make sure I tighten the bolts to factory specs on:
bearing assembly on the new spindle
upper and lower ball joint
tie rod ends on the new spindle

I do it by feel, but you should be able to rent a torque wrench from most parts stores. However you do it be sure to go back after you put some miles on it and double check everything...

When I install the the spindle/knuckle, the instructions say to make sure I tighten the bolts to factory specs on:
bearing assembly on the new spindle
upper and lower ball joint
tie rod ends on the new spindle
bearing: tighten to 12 ft-lbs (to seat bearings)..then loosen by hand. Then tighten back up by hand until its snug and install the cotter pin
upper joint: 90
lower joint: 74
tie rod: 46
these are for 97-00 trucks...straight out of the Haynes manual.

I will definitely be buying a Haynes Manual, been meaning to for ahwile. I just don't want anything to get messed up from not tightening to the proper ft lbs.

Just get the longest socket wrench you have (I used the bar we used to break them to tighten them all of the way). Something about like this: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=3293
Just keep tightening until they are as tight as you can get them (or as tight as you feel safe getting them), then about 500 miles or so later, I would go through all of them again and just check them to make sure they are still all the way tight. I don't really think there is a need to tighten to specs, I just wouldn't exceed them too much or you could go out of the bolt/nut's strength rating.
