This is the motor for my buddy's truck. The oringal 454 came with the truck but the one thats in is distoryed, ones fi and ones carb. Is it possible to take the 2 motors to make one good one or are they like small blocks, are the mainfold and heads the same.Im not sure whats wrong with it but all the fi stuff is there, 454 fi's are like hens teeth around here. truck only has 78 000 km's on it and its a 91

piston chunks. yeah you can mix and match parts. intake is different for carb but you can buy adapter plate for installing the tbi.

so its like the small block and can be done , I dont now exactly what happend but yeah it is piston chunks and the stuff that looks like drill shaving i think are the rings. What would cause this to happen anyway?

abuse, neglect, mechanical/electrical failure. did it backfire? then go boom.

WTF!
so any engine can just backfire and turn into a pile of metal shavings?
What did yall do to it?
What is that fist pic? What are the metal picies sitting on?

WTF?
its deffinatly the bottem end of the block and theres alot of metal shavings which could be rings and part of the cylinder sleeves, the parts should interchange as far as the bottem end, not the upper end i am sure there are adapters that can adapt FI to the engine, but thats engine looks prety fubar.
so what exactally happen?

i am in newfoundland, We where towing a cj-7 out of snow bank witch was burried and half shoveled out. It was up at 6200 rpms when it happened.

6200 rpms when it happened.
you just answered your own question. 6 grand is what happened to your engine. big blocks don't like that kind of rpm unless they are built for it. i shreded a 350 at 6500 once. keep you factory big block under 5k and you will not see piston shavings quite so often

yeah we figure thats what did it, The the snow was 2 feet over the the cj and i knew somethign had to give, I was expecting the cross member on the cj

Any engine can do that, that's why detonation is such a serious issue.

Great Googalee Moogalee! While it sucks for the person it happened to, I always find it interesting. Like the time I could see thru two different holes in our tractors engine, and a couple of rods twenty feet away!

Gen IV big block heads and Gen V blocks don't match or vise versa, don't remember which way. The heads need to match the intake manifold, i.e- oval port with oval port, rectangle with rectangle etc. Also watch the pistons type compared to the chamber volume, match wrong and you can have somthing like 7:1 compression stock....
