I plan on a 6 link and tube arms.Ill b rollin some 22 intro's.
Motor is 350 w centerbolt heads, not vortec. It took alot of gutting and still dont have it wired like it should be. Ive got so much in it I cant let it go. You know what I mean?

Inverter
01-05-2008, 01:03 PM
Old school T350. The inside is totally gutted cept for wheel and seat, pedals, shifter. I have a Painless musclecar kit for it. Dont know if itll handle the airride wiring.Air management is so far away I havent even thought about that.
layindoor84
01-05-2008, 02:46 PM
You can run seperate wiring for the air ride. I am thinking about going carbed on my vortec. I want to keep all the a/c and heat and stuff, but get rid of all the computer **** under the hood. The only reason I haven't made up my mind yet is cuz of the whipple charger I have on it.

I would in no way ditch the factory fuel injection....what would be the reasoning behind doing so?
FordeatinZ71
01-05-2008, 05:12 PM
yea, MUCH more efficient with the EFI...can get more performance potential out of the factory EFI as well...if you are dead-set on it staying gone, go with a $1,500 Holley Stealth-Ram injection system and get some real powah out of that beast...i'd run a built 700R4 behind it myself...that way you have OD for freeway cruising and no computer to run it...

That's easy to do. My dad and I took a long block 5.7 out of a 98 (warranty claim for piston slap) and added an Edelbrock intake and carb. Ran perfect.
Inverter
01-05-2008, 06:13 PM
I went carb cause most of my other vehicles are injection.Hell, everything is nowadays! Its going 2 b a basic Hotrod. Besides,,the truck was a 4.3/4L60E before. Carbed motors just have a certain sound that I like.
"Layindoor",,,Dont know what 2 tell ya.If it were me,,I'd keep it like it is and just reroute all the wiring and try and clean it up best u can. F/I is nice.

Nice.
On my 91 stepside I am keeping the factory tank hanger under the driver's side and am mounting a gel cell right there. I too plan on using the painless musclecar or street rod kit and just reroute a distribution block for the air from the new battery location.
I feel your pain drilling that spare tire holder out. When I finally got mine off I did the mexican hat dance around it.

I plan on fabing a cage, behind the rear end,out of 1x1 tube.Something simple but sturdy.I'm using an RCI,I believe. You can get them from Jeggs.com or Summitracing.com,They come in all shapes n sizes. Mines a 24"x 20".24gal. I think.Go online and look through the catalogs, its fun.

I learned a little trick w/the brake line. Some of you may already know it. If you loosen the 2 small lines at the T-block,you can invert the whole set up and remount it.I thought it was worth noting.I just rebent the existing line from there to work w/my frame setup.

the last pic, where the notch meets the upper frame rail, doesn't look like you got a lot of penetration between the frame and notch... dunno can't tell and don't know enough to tell ya what to do, just looks of it
Inverter
01-15-2008, 02:56 PM
Yea,,its hard to tell by the blurry photo. My camera auto focus is not working on close ups. I was wondering about penetration too,,but I can see at the edge of the bead where the metal is sunken in. Ive tried the next higher setting on the machine and it seems too hot for the material Im welding. It leaves an ugly trench around the bead. I Also plug welded where the bolt holes were from the previous boltin notch. I think once I box in the areas they will be fine,,Maybe I should use straight Co2..?? I'm open for sudgestions .
Beyond Static©
01-15-2008, 03:58 PM
Try using the hotter setting, and speeding up your wire speed a little to prevent burn through. Progress looks good
Kruznlow69
01-15-2008, 09:39 PM
ditto, things are looking good. b sure to weld up the inside of the frame to notch as well and box in the frame in front of and behind the notch for about 10" or more if you can. really braces it all up. for the brake lines for my last build i used the oe 1/4" line to that joint by the tank location then put a tab on the frame for a 22" braided line to sweep over to a T on the axle. worked awesome for suspension travel. i'm starting all over with my new frame now.

Thanks Fellas, I have my boxing material cutout.I'm boxing all the area between forward crossmember and notch and about 8 inches behind notch. I'm trying to get out the little tweek in the notch area and square up my bridge bars. When I get it all squared and welded up ,,I'll box it. Thanks for the tips! This is all new to me so I enjoy the constructive criticism.I hope to develope the skill of all yall youngsters around here..

Thanks, Its a Hobart 180,75/25 mix.I'm using the recomended settings off the machine and then fine tuning wire speed and drag/stickout angle etc.. I'm mostly using 3/16 material. The factory frame isnt 3/16,,it seems like it varries in thickness and has a lot of slight bends and curves. If I had more room I think I would have tried a total back half. Next time....

Thanks Travis,Im planning on a kp 6 link.Im thinking the pan it comes w/will have 2 b modified to fit since I boxed the area it is supposed to bolt into. I'll make it work.I really want one of those Watts from Totally Polished,,I dont think I have room for it though...

Thanks man,Im kinda figurin it out as I go! If I did the math right, the truck should layout on a 30" rear and still have about 3" between that pointed brace and the front of the pumpkin. My notches are really tall.I had planned on welding in a gusset between the inside of notch and where the axle tube would be positioned when layed out. I still might do it later when I see what the travel is like. Thanks for the encouragement!!

all i can say is wow, me i'm not really fond of lowered 2wd trucks myself, but what you are doing is awesome, i love being able to do stuff like that, building it yourself, the way you want it, its a great feeling isn't it, and you'll feel even better when your, and know what you've accomplished is going to be great, i love that feeling, but for myself, every time i finish a project, i feel great about it, but deep down in side, i wish it wasn't finished so i could work on it even more.

Thank you,It is a great feeling to go in your own direction.Ever since I saw my 1st lowered truck at age 15,,I fell in Love w/the look.I have a sickness for overdoing things though.I didnt want to just do an airride install and call it done. I want a one off truck so Im doing a combination of a modern hotrod and old school H/R w/a semi flat finish of a ratrod . I feel,as others do,that this kind of work is Art.Im not as experienced as alot of garage based diy builders but Im learning, and its a great workout for my ocd. Thanks for the kind words.

I had to trim the cab, redo my exhaust hangers and its still about 5/8" from laying when the bag flattens all the way.I am ordering the longer bones and that should take care of it,then its just painting a few places and reassemble. I guess I'll need those damn choppin block arms to lay the front on a 31+" tire? I welcome the day when I can roll it in and out of the garage so I can reorganize.

Its a billet specialties cleaner.I searched and searched on the Summit site till I found one I liked, sorry I dont have a part #.
I planned on tubn both sides w/the prefab tubs and running the harness through the wall behind the distrib.Everything will be from scratch so I can place things where I want them w/in reason. I think the B/J angles are better w/the choppn arms,,so I might go w/those and use my drop spindles. W/the notching/tubbing I should be able to layout.I hope the tire wont stick up past the hood.

Inverter

Thanks, and very clean nnbs to you.(Is that the correct accronym?)
I havent bought steel in about 8 months.I still have about 36' of 2x4,about 30'of 2x2,a bunch of 3/16 plate and odd pieces of drop.I have been hearing how much its went up recently!I only use it on this truck, shouldnt take much more material to finish this build.I wouldnt want to have to buy it on a regular basis.
I heard how metal fabricated buildings were getting rediculously expensive.Used to be you could have a nice shop built for around $17K.(I mean a nice one w/plumbing,roll up doors,)now it'll be around twice that money for the same building. I was planning on building a metal fab home w/attached shop-garage(clean and dirty area)in a couple years and now Im rethinking it. Its kinda like the fuel prices. They will never go back to the previous amount,we will just learn to accommodate them or evolve into frugal people.

you should cut those upper mounts off and raise them a little that will get rid of the camber real quick.
if you do so i would start off with 1/2 inch tack it check then go another 1/2 if needed. i raised mine on my nbs 1 1/4 inches and it took out 10 degrees of camber
