my '79 is on daily-driver duty, it gives me like 5mpg when tis cold, I drive 2 miles one-way so I'm pretty much always running cold, so I can say my weekly average is 5mpg and confuse the hell outta people. Freeway I get 15-16 tho, even in cold and through a snowstorm.

I'm not currently using mine as a Daily Driver, but, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if I needed to use it as one. I call it The Big Blue Beast and that thing is like a tank. That truck has been through hell and back and I trust that thing for stuff I wouldn't even consider using my 05 for.

I mostly drive the towtruck for everything. Now I got the Lincoln on the road yesterday,so I will be showing off in that for a while. My Blazer sits in the pound at work. I do donuts in the snow in it,but thats about all,the transmission is slipping,so I dont wanna drive really. When I had to drive my Blazer to work, when I was welding,it was worth it,they dont really use that much more gas then like a minivan or something like that, plus I would take my dogs to the beach in it,made for many a romantic night in the summer. These old trucks make terrifick daily drivers if you keep it up,fix things right away, parts are cheaper for these trucks. I will never sell mine.:55:

I second the '87. I recently bought one because I got tired of my '02 Z71, it was just too boring. You could also find an older truck and do the EFI swap. It was 9 degrees here the other day and mine fired right up. That's having your cake and eating it too!

Well as of last night my truck was retired from daily-driver duty - tis back to a weekend toy till spring hits, then the engine is going into a K5 Blazer and most of the rest gets scrapped. I no longer have my truck, and the Blazer ain't mine either. My new daily driver is a '78 F150 with a 429 big block and 4" lift and 35s, tis much closer to what I want for a truck than my Chevy ever would be (being a 4x4 and all).

lol, he's actually keeping 'em, where he's from even the ladies prefer trucks over sport-zippy cars

Did something happen to it?
2-mile daily trip to work/school, that's what happened, due to running cold all the time the engine was sucking gas and burning oil like there ain't no tomorrow. Also lots of rust at the cab mounts, sloppy front end, and of course the fact tis a 2wd with an open end - after I got stuck in my friend's neighbor's backyard last week I was pretty much done with it. Last but not least, Dennie has a 4x4, so I need one too, couldn't find a Chevy with a solid axle and in decent shape :(

uhm, i think he sold it...WTF?
Yes and no, we traded even title for title - I could never get 2k for the Chevy, he could never get 2k for the Ford with the issues it had (all easy 5-minute fixes, but you gotta know how to work on carbs), so we called it a day and swapped 'em. I think tis for the better, I got me the lifted 4x4 with good cab I wanted, he got him a fun weekend toy and later a good powerplant for his brother's 4x4 Blazer, win-win situation.

When do yer secondaries open? My Chevy has a double-pumper as well, I've never seen less than 15mpg freeway, crazey snow storms included, actually it's steady in the 19-20mpg during the summer - all this at 60mph with tach at 2000rpms, no cruise. City driving would be 10mpg winter and 15 summer, slow acceleration with occasional WOT just to burn off the carbon

I drove my old 77 daily, around 50 miles a day for 7 years, with no probs. I drove my 87 70 miles a day for 5 yars with no probs except that 400 liked eating 700r4's when i played with it. Currently I drive my 78 40-50 miles a day with no problems, except low gas mileage. These trucks are great and (MOSTLY) cheap to keep. And I'm with lizard lips 100%

Hey y'all, shush, enough with the F-word dissin :p Actually I'll be getting another Chevy again, not now but hopefully in the not too distant future, I want a 2wd late-'70s short stepper again, but I'd like to put a small diesel in it this time, and lower it a bit, and use it as a daily driver, while the F-word remains mostly a tailgate vehicle and offroad rig.

Heck yeah! Not only that, but some of us keep building even in -1F weather - put a "new" headliner in mine Sunday afternoon, promptly got fever and hardcore headache two hours later, but it was worth it! And a day earlier I finally put a carpet in it, which came from a 2wd Chevy low and behold - should've snagged one off a 4x4 Chevy, but this was on great condition so this is what I used, so far it works great. Wonder how many more Chevy parts I can stick in a Ford... lol :aniteef:

too much for an educated buyer, who will know what happens to a 700R4 with big tires and highway gears, not to mention the rear that is known to blow in stock trucks on stock tires. been there, done that. still have the souvenier pinion to prove it, complete with missing teeth. 5-6K truck, tops.

You know, I’ve been popping in here from time to time for the past few weeks and I’m actually quite amazed at how much you run your reckless maw. You’re quite ignorant and seem to have a raging case of diarrhea of the mouth (keyboard). You don’t like his truck? Keep your trap shut. Think it’s too much? Pass on it…silently. There’s no need for you to post your comments. I, for one, could really give a **** about your opinion and added “expertise”.

…and don’t even pretend like you could afford it-even at your suggested price of 5k. I’ve seen your type before: you talk **** out of jealously and feelings of inadequacy.

On another note, I can think of at least three occasions (fuel tank switch, frame shortening & dash pad) where the info you have given out was flat wrong. My knowledge is based on my own personal experience, yours seems to be based on…well…I really have no idea. My suggestion, if I may, would be too keep quiet unless you actually know what you are talking about. Your infinite “wisdom” doesn’t make you look smart or superior to anyone but those less ignorant than you. As for the people who really know what’s going on…you look like a tool.

I really don’t know what compelled me to rebuke you like this, other than the fact that you seem blissfully unaware of your douch-baggery. That kind of annoys me.

One more parting word of advice: It's okay not to post in every topic. Really, it is. Having a high post count dosen't mean you're an authority...it means you're inside banging away on your keyboard, and not out there, in the real world, where it counts.

thanks for you input noob. i've forgotten more about these trucks than you'll ever know. if you notice, we're the same age, and i've been turning wrenches for nearly 18 years now. yes, that would put me spinning a wrench at the ripe age of about 9. i built my first small block at 11, and my experience is almost exclusively with 73-87 trucks.

not only could i afford it, i could pay cash tomorrow and have enough money to gear and axle it properly. hell, i've got enough parts i could probably throw something together pretty easy.

to be honest, i've never really looked at my post count here. nor does it really matter. i come here to talk trucks, and thats it. you cant talk trucks if you're silent. and since you care, i have wireless internet, and a laptop. most of the time im hanging out in the garage while posting here.

lol @ noob. What a dickhead. I mean, really, you couldn’t come up with anything better to insult me with?

It must be fairly embarrassing admitting to being involved with these trucks since around 9 years of age and still managing to get most of your information wrong. You're dumber than I thought.

and since you care, i have wireless internet, and a laptop. most of the time im hanging out in the garage while posting here.

Sorry, I just couldn’t let this go-

So you expect me to believe that you hang out in your garage and “spin wrenches” all day with your trusty wi fi equipped laptop nearby so you can post abominable information on this site between wrench spins?

If that’s true, it’s the most pathetic thing I’ve ever heard, and not only am I doubting your credibility as a seasoned “wrench spinner”, but I am know doubting your credibility as a heterosexual male.

i never said i spent most of my time wrenching, i just hang out in the garage. that's my space, its where i like to be. what difference does it really make?

care to post up some of the "wrong" information that you seem to be so aware of that i'm constantly posting? there are occaisions where i mix something up, and i'll admit to it when i do. i havent ever seen a "stock" manual fuel selector valve, in fact, my 73 C20 had what appeared to be a stock electronic switch. post hardcore proof one way or the other, and i'll admit to being wrong. 73-78 GM parts manual should be here any day, so i'll have some regardless. i know for a fact that my frame is straight up to the rear cab mounts on both my '77 and my '80, and i have a picture of my bare '78 C10 frame where you can clearly see its straight as well. as for the dash pad, it was discontinued at one point, i tried to buy one for my 82 C10 while i was working at the dealership. it is entirely possible that it has been reissued, as is the case with parts known as "GM Restoration Parts", they're mixed in with the original catalog parts. i also find it comical that you took the time to search and edit your post for specific instances.

so basically you're throwing a "your gay!" my way? and you're poking fun at me calling you a n00b. nice, welcome to third grade! i'll post up pictures of my daughter when she's born in May just for you big guy! ;)

I really doubt that having a computer in his garage makes him any less of a "wrench spinner" or makes him gay. Multiple times I've taken my laptop into my shop to use a tutorial while I'm doing something. Does that make me gay? Does that mean that I'm bad at working on my truck? You need to think about what you say before you post it. I know a lot of guys who like to hang out in the shop to get away from the hassles of daily life, myself included. Maybe if you spent a little more time in yours, not sitting on your ass at the computer chair, you'd understand.

On TOPIC. My 69 was a project/dd for over a year. I still drive it a lot, but that 07 4.8 gets a hell of a lot better mileage. 9 VS 20? No brainer for a college kid on a budget.

*edited once, for content*

Thank you for chiming in with your two cents, Friend. I'm not abundantly clear what part of the conversation required a response from you, but you've definitely brought something to the table, nonetheless.

At any rate, using a laptop in the garage for tutorial purposes is an entirely different ballgame than bringing it in to "hang out" and post trivial matters of opinion and false information on internet message boards. You have to admit, the latter is a bit silly.

Of course, the presence or absence of said laptop itself doesn't make you any more or less a qualified "wrench spinner" than any other guy out there. My opinion* is based on logical thought. I'll break it down for you-

One would assume that if a person has time to post online, whilst sitting the garage, that person isn’t accomplishing anything on the vehicle which occupies said garage. This obviously translates into lack of time spent on working on the vehicle, which translates into lack of experience to qualify oneself to give technical advice on said vehicle to others who are actually working on a similar vehicle.

While someone who posts on the same internet message board between the hours of 7-5 Monday through Friday, usually does so while that person is at work, bored to tears because it happens to be slow, all the while longing to be home working on his vehicle. Consequently, it’s unlikely to find that same person posting information any other time than the previously mentioned because the majority of his spare time is being filled with other things. Such as actually working on the vehicle that occupies their garage. Which translates into time spent working, which translates into valid experience.

Savvy?

As a semi-educated man, I know there is always the exception to the rule. Of which I’m sure you are. Fortunately for me, my life situation doesn't force me to retreat into the garage to "get away from it all", as it apparently does to some of you. I apologize that I can't relate on that level.

Secondly, no, having a laptop in the garage doesn’t actually make you a homosexual. I apologize if I've confused you. In truth, I’m actually not qualified to make the call on your sexual orientation. If you desire further clarification for your own peace of mind, I would advise you to confide in your Priest, close friend, parent, sibling or boyfriend. Whichever the case may be, I’m sure they will be far more qualified in that arena than I.

However, I do want to leave you with this old proverb:

Those who can, do. Those who can’t, post poor information on public message boards.

*o•pin•ion (Ã pinÆyÃn), n.
1. a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
2. a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.

P.S.- Obviously, this was largely satirical. As a college student, I’d expect you to realize that.

P.S.S.- Now that we have managed to amble off topic, I will refrain from any additional responses relating to this matter, except when presented in the medium of “private messages”. I would advise the same for the both of you, lest we bring down the full and scathing wrath of the management.

And JCampbell... Not everyone wants to hear your opinion. That's how I decided to bring myself into this. This is a truck forum, not somewhere to bash people for no reason. Who says the person's vehicle is always in need of work? Maybe your's do, but mine don't. The shop is a place a man can have some free time... Maybe you don't feel like that, that's your choice.

I plan on a two inch drop in the ass end, just to level it out. This summer the tired 350 is getting pulled because of a massive rear seal leak. When it's out, it might end up getting some new heads. The stock one's just aren't cutting it. It's got a mild cam, edelbrock intake and 650cmf carb. I'm pushing low 300s in HP and that just isn't enough to move this big mo-fo. I do love the built TH400 in there though. It's got a great shift kit. Bark's them every time shifting to second with my 15's on it. With 22's, I can break em loose if I really get into it.

Well, my current "hunting pickup" project has evolved into a "daily driver" project. As soon as it is road worthy, I am putting a for sale sign in my 05 superduty.

Its a 78 k10 short box. Rust is being fixed or sheetmetal bobbed to remove it. 4" lift, 33" tires, 14 SF, crossover steering, intercooled 4bt, 97 dodge version NV4500, NP241 SYE. Plenty of sound deadner, new rubber floor mat, and a black saddle blanket seat cover. After body work it will be rattle can primered. Lightly sanded, then rattle canned Krylon Camo Flat Tan.

Mine is a Daily Driver (never was until I owned it). Thought it was a shame to just sit around in a garage.

Hope to drop some money into it this summer.

It's cool, but I'd really like to pick up a '73-'78 4x Sub with the same trim as my dually. Paint it root beer brown and cream. Found one the other day for $500, but I need to get the dually done first.

i even played in the sand some in orange beach alabama. as much as i could in a 2wd anyway...lol I did what i wanted to though, backed it up to the gulf and drank margaritas with my best friend in the back on the beach with our girls..
