I have a friend that might be able to get me a smokin deal on a Caterpiller 3208. I have done a little research and found 3-4 references to people putting these in 1 ton crew cabs.
Anyone here know of someone that has done it? Pics? Anything?
This would be for my 1 ton crew.

I have seen that Ford. Cool truck.
I will see if I can find some of the Chevy pics agian.
The Cummins does NOT just fit fine. I have looked at this as an option too. There is frame and body work that has to be done to make it fit. My research led me to the deal on the Cat and finding that it has been done too, so just looking for more info on that.

Is it NA or turbo charged?
I like the 3208. I managed a fleet of Ford F900 vacuum trucks with them. They hate to idle but make decent power. The biggest issue I had was injector pump failures but that was mainly due to employees letting them run out of fuel.

actually yes the Cummins I6 fits just great under a 73-87 hood...
Want proof? http://www.devilscastle.net/
Swapped it into a Burban. Only a very minor frame clearance had to be done for the A/C compressor pulley. Nothing to the firewall.

That is the cleanest install I have seen yet. It looks like they still cut out the center frame member to mount the engine low in the frame.
Looks good.
I have researched it too. I am not against it. The Cat may be a "fell off the truck" type of deal. Plus it would be unique. I have not been able to find a cheap swapabe Cummins either.

Actually if you look through all the pages the only cutting that I remember him having to do was on the passenger side frame rail for the A/C clutch. And that was only I think 3/16-1/4" notch.
But yeah, the cost of the damned engine trans is still really high. It is cheaper to find a running wrecked dodge than to buy the engine/trans.

I went back and read the other pages.....He did a LOT of fab work on that!!!! Custom brackets all over the place, custom front cross memeber, oil pan mods, he even custom made the exhaust from the manifold back etc etc etc.
Cool swap. But he has been working on it for years

With the install into an OBS i remember they solved a few clearance issues with a body lift, so you can get the extra tire clearance for 33's while you're at it (if you are not lifted)

But that is also in a 2WD, mine is a 4. So I am not expecting alot of work to get it into mine.

I think the 2wd cross memeber is actually lower than the 4wd one. (they raised the engine up to clear the front axle)
There are a couple of swaps of Coloradok5.com. Some of them had to cut out Lots of the floor to make it fit, or cut the front crossmember.

man, i love that devilscastle page! i love how he did the gauges...using the '94-'98 Dodge gauges.
anyhow, someday i'd love to either put a Cummins in mine or, to be different, a Duramax!

man talk about smokin while the the Ford is strokin :aniteef:
what are the 3208 cat rated at or capible of? what trans do you use? i know the Top Kick can be had with a Cat, Cummapart, IHC, or detroit so finding a Cat that fits should be easy

They came in a few variations. About 210-300hp and maybe 400-600tq. (ballpark numbers I took from some other forums)
