I've seen the Dakota digital setup (http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=7&Product_Code=VFD3-73C-PU&Category_Code=7G) but personally I think Autometer looks a lot better plus you can get it cheaper depending on which style you opt for.

if yours...how come you flipped the gauges (speedo tach)?
The big gauges dont appear to have the glass in them? Are they special back mount gauges or have they been removed from the cases?

nope, not mine, but man it looks good. i probally will switch it back to factory (speedo on left side and tach where the fuel level is). im gona make a pick and pull run this weekend and maybe score one and see. looks way more modern, and with the current motor and trans it likes to go past 85 and its elec speedo.
they are a hybrid of: the factory housing and chopped up 96 (diesl) dodge cluster + other aft. gauges

ocbaud, that **** looks good!
I read a tech article on that setup and the flush mount style... IMHO the recessed looks much cleaner. More like a factory option.

Ok, they're on 73-87.com (www.73-87.com) under "Garage" and then "Interior".
The recessed link is HERE (http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/interior/gauges_recessed.htm)

The Autometer guages come with a "U" clamp style bracket for use when surface mounting the guages.

the kid i got my truck from had started this http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb128/Wildturkee/Chevy/DSCN0948.jpg he had them mounted to the cluster allready, i just had to wire it up, the sending units were allready installed also. So easy install on my end, i have a spair gauge cluster so im just trying to decid how i want to remount them, i had thought of redoing the flush mount holes in the cluster, then doing some "boddy work", smoothing out the panel then painteding it to match the color that i decide to paint the truck

the tach in the 1st post is a diesle tach, the gas trucks go to 6 which is perfect! its gona resemble a new factory stuff when i get done... the through the dial lighting is what i really really like. autometer stuff is def. clean looking but way to expensive, and for what im going to be using it for, oe gauges will read just fine! autometer makes through the dial guages - 5" tachs and speedos, but not 2 5/8's for some retarded reason. as you already know 2 5/8's fits perfectly in the hole. the other is just too small. i called autometer about it and they were like yeah, we are experimenting with new gauge options.. im like wtf, its only logical! anyway, il post pictures as i mosie along.

The gauge bezel in gdawg383's post is a Covan unit. They are around $300 from Classic I industries I have one I will let go for $100 plus shipping. It is very slightly modified, the opening for the wiper switch is enlarged VERY slightly.

Well i went to the usual wrecking yard and stole a bunch of chit... not quite stole, but dam near i gave 150 for the dodge cluster, and 3 bucket seats out of the 99+ silverado's. the 3rd one is just a donor, i needed to replace one of the pads, and the 3rd seat is a burban seat which has the armrest.. so i dont want the back. il take pictures hopeuflly tomarrow.

well i didnt get too much done today except some preliminary stuff... like checking the fitment of the rest of the guages and they fit well. almost perfectly. the only real issue with the dodge cluster is the fuel guage... that reads 73-10ohm vs. GM's 0-90ohm..... before i fully tear into that i will do a test to see what i have to work with here.

well i just back traced the PC on the dodge cluser and everything looks like it will wire up fine, 3 wires on every gauge except the volts, which is normal... maybe sometime this week i will be able to test the guages before i get neck deep in frustration!

Yea, this is for the Autometer 5" inch speedo and tach the 2 3/8" (I think that is the correct size) fuel/volt etc.

They make one without the holes drilled but I just can't seem to justify $250 for it.

summit racing has some already done but they are $600+ complete with a new bezel and autometer guages ready to bolt in.

yeah, but autometer is not only overdone but expensive and they dont offer through the dial lighting in the correct sizes. (bunch of slow people at autometer)
once im done with the cluster (hoping i will get done) i will have 50 bucks invested into this setup. only thing im worried about is the fuel gauge. dodge is setup 73-10 ohm or something close, while gm is 90-0... im betting that im going to hack up the stock sender and insert a dodge potentiometer in there. dont know if reversing the leads will be good enough. maybe make some sort of inverter.... also another thought i just came up with..

if you haven't finished this yet, you could look at using the original fuel guage with the dodge? dial if it is the same degree of sweet and just mount the dodge needle on it.

I prefer analog guages over the digital. I like what he has done. Most would be too scared or have no idea on where to start with a project like this.
