Was wondering who has the biggest bump stick in there 96-98 1500s. I'm gonna upgrade, but I'm worried about fuel support.
.510 INTAKE LIFT / DUR.@.050 .230 DEGREES
.520 EXHAUST LIFT / DUR. @.050 .236 DEGREES
LSA IS II0.
Also, 4L60E p.o.s. went last season, (again) who are you guys usin for a race prepped version?

No sh1t. Read my sig, I've already got a ZZ4 and want more. I don't mean "biggest" in regards to piston to valve clearance, I mean "biggest" that will still run w/o fuel injection mods. I'm well versed in choosing a cam , just not on this motors induction type.

you didnt specify that in your original post.:whatever:

I wouldn't go over .490 on lift for vortec heads for flow reasons. that's me personally
different heads for the higher lift stuff
marine intake

Guys, look at my sig. I already have a cam and all the necessary parts to run a big cam. Vortec heads flow very well, and they will go up to .550 lift w/o more mods. I want to know what the piston to valve clearance is on other similar motors. If I have to pull the heads b/c no one can answer my question, so be it.

deck height, piston compression height, valve relief depth, and head gasket thickness will all come into play. there is no way to say for sure what it will take and what it wont. you're going to have to pull the heads and check for yourself. there's no way around it.

You are absolutely right. I was wondering if anyone had a stock shortblock w/ a cam w/ the same lift numbers or even higher. Thanks.

That is .547 & .545 total lift in a 350 cu in. The 114 LSA is for the Supercharger. Now the bad news, on the stock poppets & manifold the truck never ran to what I thought its potential was. The air flow in the intake was choked & it just killed the cam, all except for the choppy idle. It quite pulling about 5100 or so, & it was done on power up there. I tried everything I could do to get enough fuel through the popets & all gains were minimal at best. I Switched to the Marine intake with 39lb injectors & the truck pulls hard right to the ~6K ecm shutoff & probably has another 5-700 rpm left. When the truck was dynoed the torque was flat & the HP was still climbing when it hit the rev limiter. Night & day difference. I also have E-tec 200 heads that have been cleaned & mildly pocket ported & polished, so no issues with the vortec heads springs. This is a big cam for a 350 & we had a ton of time in tuning, especially some driveability issues, definately not a "mail order" tune. All is well now, truck idles better than it did from the factory, just has a real nasty chop to it. Its fun to sit in the cab & watch the short power antenna shake back & forth.

2many,
Without mods to your intake and injection, your ZZ3/ZZ4 cam is already good for more power than you can make.
Or am I missing something?

I am running the cam in my sig. And with out mods the stock vortec heads will coil bind around .490-.500, so I here.
