Just a thought. With everyone showing interest in doing MAF and MPFI mods to the TBI system, why not just use a flash programmable ECM from the 96' and up trucks? That would give you the provisions for the MPFI and MAF, and on top of that, they are flash programmable.

The hang ups I see would be:

1. Dealing with the harness (re-pin original, or swap in new one).
2. Software is more expensive, and the definition cost $$.

The advantages I see would be:

1. No mods necessary for MAF.
2. No mods necessary for MPFI.
3. With a proper manifold, the TB can act as an air valve for MPFI.
4. Not as much hardware required for tuning 95' and previous ECMs.

What do you all think??

Why not run the 0411 LS series pcm if you're gonna go OBD 2?
I hear the swap from the L31 computer to 0411 is pretty easy. I haven't done it personally, though- kinda going off of what Howard (Da Burb) has said.
The tuning solution is expensive, but it would be one heck of a cool setup!!!

I think the black box ecm has a hard-wired rev limiter at 5600 or something. Not 100% on that

Advantage #5. It would allow you to run a driver information center since you'd have Class 2 communication. But I'm pretty sure I've found a nice little driver info center that works on the UART system. Just gotta do more research on it.

Well, that is why I am talking more about the 96-98 ECM. The TunerCat software and the definition file you would need would be a little over $400, and you are set. For the OBD1 stuff, if you will have spent close to that if you do the Moates APU1 + all the adapters. The LS based stuff is $$$$$$$$$$$$$.
