Alright, now i got my tranny back in the truck after the rebuild, i'm gonna go regear my rear axle. I'm running 3:73's stock right now. Stock tire size was 225/75R16, that's what it says on the door sticker. I bought the truck with 245's on it, and im running 265/75R16 for about 2 months now.

I was thinking about getting 4:10's(http://www.4wheelparts.com/PDT263373.aspx ), will this be a good idea, or would i be better off going with 4:30 or even 4:56?

Let me know what you think, and what is the best place to get it, and what brand gears to get.

Thanks

how big of a tire do you want to run? if its the 265 id stay with the 3.73 but if you want a 33 or a 285/305 it wouldn't hurt to get 4.10 but still not a big deal since you have 3.73...what size engine do you have? heres what i plan on doing...i have 3.42 and 4.8 V8 with 265 and will be getting 305/70/16 and would like to regear to 4.10 just because i think it would be pointless to regear to 3.73...and most people on this site will say stay away from those gears at 4WP and look into richmond or yukon...this is just what i think and hope it helps some...

i have the 5.7L V8.

why i want to regear is because my engine doesnt wanna stay at a certain rpm when cruising, it keeps going up and down cuz it doesnt have enough power to keep it at lets say 100km/h. goes up and down between 2000-2500, with a strong wind from the front even up to 3000. this annoys the sh*t out of me. and i get really bad fuel mileage because of that. it was a surprisingly big difference going from 245's to 265's.

where can i get the richmond or yukon gears?

heres a site that most people on here have mentioned...http://www.ringpinion.com/Default.aspx

thats weird that your truck with 3.73 gears and 5.7 V8 have trouble with 265..my 4.8 and 3.42 seem to do fine and i know it wasn't that big of a difference from stock to these...but if you do regear i would say that 4.10 is all you need being thats about the next step lower from 3.73..

ya i don't really get it either, it takes off fast, it will go up to 80-90 pretty quick, but after that man o man that's where she starts having problems keeping up.

i was thinking about 4:10's too, cuz its the next one after 3:73 and that will probably be good enough, seeing that i doubt i will ever get like 38's, 35's max in the future, but those tires are brand new so they will stay on there for a long time.

you probably wont feel a difference going to 4.10.

you probably wont feel a difference going to 4.10.
really? it will make it a little easier for the engine to keep cruising at a certain rpm won't it?
so you're saying i should put 4.56 in instead?

if you plan on getting 35 then get 4.56 but if you get 4.56 with 265 your gas mileage will be brutal it will keep it at to high rpm for its power band where as 3.73 or 4.10 will keep it in its power band giving you better MPG..

if you get 35's i recommend the 4.56's. That's what i'm going too. I have 4.10's with 35's now, and they do alright until i try to tow. Before that I had 31" tires with 4.10's and it did very well with that combo, and I have a 4.8L.

well, i doubt those 35's will ever come, well let's say it like this: i doubt those 265's will ever wear off enough to get new tires, cuz in the summer a newer truck is coming resulting in this one just standing around in the yard/shop as a project truck.

so lets just focus on the 265's, and the answer is probably 4.10

yeah that sounds good and while your at it throw in a tru-trac or some other traction aid while the rearend is apart...

prolly a pretty dumb question but......iv always owned 4x4's but do 2wd's have a front diff?.....like when u regear is there anything that you do to the front?

no, no need for a front diff.

Nope. That's the reason they are usually around half the price to regear, when compared to doing a 4x4.

I've got 4.10's and 33's It does all right, but The MPG on the freeway SUCKS if I go over 70... So I think you really need to figure what driving you do the most and fit the ratio to that!

Randy's Ring and Pinion carries Yukon gears. And I would go with 4.30's.

I'm considering getting 4.11's when I go with 33's.

no to hijack your thread, but since we are giving input on regearing options, though I would ask about mine. I have an 04 4.3L v6. When stock, I had 235/75/16, I recently upgraded to 265/70/17. I want to regear, but don't know which gear ratio. I drive 70-80 on the highway, and currently with my 3.23's, my rpm's are always jumping around trying to keep the truck going at 70mph. I might upgrade to 285's in the future, but that would be the biggest tire ever. I'm thinking 3.73 or 4.10. Any one care to give some input.

I have a 2006 4.3L as well and 265/70/17's. Mine runs fine at 71 mph at 2k r.p.m's. I'm gonna get some 33x12.50's (a litter bigger than 285/70/17's) and I'm torn between the 4.10's or 4.30's b/c I do drive 400 miles to school, but other than that its all in-town low RPM driving.

For your application Grohe I would go with 4.10's. Always go a little higher than you think.. Its better to over-rev a tad bit than bog that sucker down.
