Boz has been gathering suspension parts for a while and we are finally starting the suspension. I'm gonna post a few pics because I am wondering what you guys did on you Kp Weld in Notch.
The outside and top plate install went pretty good. This is my first big welding project so don't be too hard on me.
http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj216/jboswel4/notchII005.jpg
Here's where my question comes in what did you guys do about the way the notch fits the frame in the rear. it fits pretty nice everywhere else but the frame is boxed in the front and not in the back so I wondered if you guys brought it in the trimmed the top plate or boxed the frame in the rear or just left a gap at the back?

its lookin pretty good. I think most guys would box in that rear part of the frame about 1' to 18" behind that notch

just bring it out and follow the lines of the notch. dont push it in..
and what size tires you running. for a 265/35/22 you only need the inside of the notch 1"
above the frame.
heres my bucket account.

did you weld those two pieces already onthe truck from the inside of the notch. because those welds that are showing in the first pics look like surface welds with almost no penetration

In your pics it looks like your notch is allot more than an inch over the frame. We are only running stock dubs now but we want room for more. I'm not sure where you don't think the weld is penetrated?

I didn't know we had a special place for build threads. If I would have posted this anywhere else I don't think I would have gotten any help.

ohh it is lol
it sactually 4" above the frame. way too much becauase at the time i didnt know any better.
i still need to take out 2 1/2 inches out of it. which leaves me room for a 31" tall tire and a bumpstop.
i will do so when i take the bed off to finish underneath it and start the body drop on the cab

Youve got it in the right place DJ, build looks good so far. I didnt see much on your welds but pics dont show as much as seeing in person. Keep us updated and check the welds to make sure, can never be too sure on something that holds the rid together.

Are you talking about height or width of the cap. I trimmed the ends some to get it to sit down on the side plate! I left it tall because we may go to a 22 at some point. I really don't think it is much over notched anyway. We also drilled a hole and welded a nut on the inside of the bottom cap to be able to run a bump stop! When you dump it its about 3 inches from the notch and we are just now raising the tank. As far as width of the top plate I would let it over hang the side about 1/4 inch to give you something to weld to. I didn't do that on the top plate but did on the bottom.
Hope this helps let me know if I can help on anything else.

djracer
02-03-2008, 09:48 PM
I did trim that down flush but if I had it to do over I would leave about 1/4 inch on each side just to give you more to weld to.

Truck looks great. Only a couple of things i would add.
Remove that bar in this pic It's just hindering you from laying and serves no purpose.
http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj216/jboswel4/Boz010.jpg
What is this tee used for? Never seen anything use one right there in plumbing. Or is that cutting over to the other side? If thats the case do you get any uneven lifting of the front end?

We flattened the end of the three bars and flipped them so they aren't hanging down much at all. As for the T The plumbing is kind of temporary right now. And I already had the t so I actualy put that t in the supply line and it feeds that valve on its way to the back! I was just trying this to eliminate one line going to the rear. It is getting a little uneven in the front now but I think it may be because of the flow controls not dumping even! We don't have all the gauges plumbed in yet so its hard to tell. The next couple of things we have to do is add a flow control for thr rear. Its way fast! I hope the Ups man doesn't take all day cause we have some awesome stuff coming to wire the valves to the switch box!

After giving it some thought they are nowhere near the cats. They are out side the frame so they can't be close!

Cool, I just glanced at the pics and thought they were on the inside of the frame... I ran a airline about 8"s from the cat once without thinking... It took about a month to finally swell up and explode...

I'm cool with learning new stuff! I am a serious truck guy from way back. I have had static drops since the early 80's. I just found out theirs a kit for my one ton ford super duty! I also want to get back to my Drag Truck! I think I have more time in this project!
Glad the pics help with the tranny member!
F__king UPS didn't bring our wiring stuff today and it should have been here! They were only 100 miles from here and I get stuff from there all the time! I used to think Ups was the bomb now I think they are the pits. This is probably the tenth problem in the last year or more so I am not whining!

I haven't really decided on paint yet. I'm either gonna two tone it using the factory pewter and the orange color on the hood or go completely orange. The orange is Orange Crush Pearl which comes on some of the newer ford vehicles.

I took this photo from another site.I think it was Clint from K/P that was showing how 2 control the dump w/0nly one valve. It makes sense. You would then only need 6 valves.
