Hi I just did the big 3 with 2GA wire. My voltage was higher and it doesn't drop nearly as much as it did before. But my system still makes my lights dim a little bit. I know how alot of people are against capacitors but seeing that my lights dim so little and the voltage barely drops I might just get one.

How about just upgrading alternators? I'd rather take the money you would spend on a cap. and use it to get a higher output alt. IMO...

I hope you aren't using your stock gauge to tell us your voltage isn't dropping...

I used a volt meter. Before when the bass hits it would drop down to 11volts and shut off. Now it only drops to 12.5 on serious bass, but when bass is punchy it still dims.

Your voltage is way too low. You really need to invest money into an alternator rather a cap. You need to be running at least 13V.

Yea your right at least its not as bad as it was before so the big 3 definitely helped.

I had a high out put alternator built by a local alternator shop the trick is you need to make sure they guy knows what he is doing, because not all high out put alternators put out the right voltage at low RPM’s. You can get an alternator that has the same amp rating but puts out higher amp’s at a low RPM & that will work. Check some of your local stereo shops and dealerships and see who rebuilds their alternators.

bingo, maximum output doesnt mean crap when its in the higher rpm ranges.

you can try www.knukoncetpz.com

Theyre selling alternators now, havent heard anything about them yet though, you can be FSC's test dummy :)

My wallet is a little light to be a test dummy.

If it is a little light wasting money on a cap would be even dumber. You need an alt.

You must have some pretty big amps to have that low of voltage or just a bad alternator.... What are you running setup wise?

I'll just tell you my whole setup.

Pioneer DEH-P77DH deck

Infinity Reference 6020cs speakers in the front

Infinity Reference 6022si in the rear

Kicker zx350.4 amp 40amps for the speakers

Alpine MRP-M650 60amps for the sub

Kicker 12 CVX in a ported 2cu.ft tuned 32hz

I know you guys are against rear fill but I needed it in a 4 door tahoe. My alternator puts out 14+volts all the time but some songs can make it drop real low. It doesn't dim as bad as it used to before the big 3. The main problem is my lights still dim a little bit and the volts drop when I'm idling or stopped.

If your realistically only consuming an additional 100 amps from what you have added on, I dont see why your having any issues.

The only issue I'm having is the lights dim a lil when the sub is hitting. I did the big 3 it made a huge difference and my stock alternator is only 105amps.

You could also look into Iraggi Alternators. Also keep in mind that the higher amps the lower the amp idle. This is the one that I have on my 99 Chevy Tahoe, but I have three amps and an extra Kinetik Battery.

where are your amps grounded? if not to the frame itself, drill a hole through the floor and bring them down to the frame.

Yep, sounds like a wiring problem. My voltage stays up way higher than yours and my amps pull a lot more current.
