Started this project a little while ago. Its a 1986 chevy k10, 350, 3.08 gears, 12 bolt rear, 10 bolt front. Got the truck for $50. Needed brakes out front, body work, exhaust, and some paint. I parked it in the garage, tore it all down, and started off with a 4" rough country lift. Tell me what you guys think im open to any suggestions.
This is what she looked like as of last week.
sanded, grinded, and painted most of the front end

For now im just going to do some basic bolt ons. headers, true dual exhaust, 750cfm holly carb, edelbrock manifold, and some heads. Im looking for 350-400hp right now. Once i get the truck driveable and i get some more money i want to rebuild the whole motor for 500+hp.

Just bought some wheels and tires from a friend. 33x12.5 continetals on 15x10 cragar soft 8s. Just going to use these tires to move the truck around(and do some burnouts)until i get my 35x12.5 SSRs.

go way lower with the gears....You arent going to have very good results with burnouts and those gears.

i have an 86 and i ran 33's with 3.08 for a long time but i had a 4sp man it did real well when i went to 35's i got 4.10s and i actually kinda wish i had 3.73 the 4.10 gave me awsome low end for burnouts but on the free way it sucked so if ur goin to dd it id use a gear cal to figure out whats goin to be the best gear for what your goin to use the truck for
nikesb1111
02-02-2008, 09:36 PM
Ya im going with 4.10s. Ill get to that after i finish the suspension and the body.

if youre going 4.10s, it woould be much cheaper to locate a set of 3/4 ton axles and swap them in. plus, with a 35" tire you're going to need a stronger rear if you plan on abusing it. you'll lose your 6 lug though, and will have to come up with some 8 lug wheels.

Its going to be my everyday truck so ill mostly be driving on the road. But when im not im just going to beat on the axles i have until they break and then swap em for a set i have on my '77 3/4 ton because by then i should have the money to do it. I want to do a disc brake conversion too once i do that too.

Finished up the suspension in the rear, along with all new brake lines. Going to lower the tcase this week and put in the new fuel tank.

lol hope ur axles last longer than mine did. half ton axles dont take much wheelin abuse til they start breakin
SilveradoLQ9
02-03-2008, 09:03 AM
Half ton axles, are no good in big tire apps. I wouldnt really worry about the front so much, but the rear, 14ff. Id just throw a d44 8 lug in the front with 410s.
GreaseDog
02-03-2008, 12:26 PM
also, if you plan on running your truck with 3.08s and the 35s, plan on rebuilding the trans. highway gears and big tire are certain death for a 700R4.

Picked up an 88 suburban yesterday. Pulled off the front clip, the dash, the front and rear bumpers, front doors, trailor hitch, bucket seats, radiator, and tow hooks. Most of it will be mounted on the k10 within a couple weeks. Im willing to sell everything else for cheep. Contact me within a couple days if you need anything.

so the trucks not done by the begining of july. still havnt been able to get the cab and bed yet but i might be going down to florida to get them the second week in august. i did rebuild the drum brakes in the rear, rebuild the carb, mount the gas tank, paint the drive shaft, and put new e brake cables on. so now its just the caba nd the bed.

not to bash ya or anything but i think 350-400 hp is alittle high of an expectation with those simple bolt ons to get numbers like those ur talkin a little head work and a cam and also i do believe that that 750 carb might be a bit big.
but ur truck is goin along nicely do you mind if i ask why u wanna do away with your cab it rly doesnt look all that bad and might be cheaper to get that one goin rather than shipping one up from florida what part of mass are you from

im planning on working on the heads and putting in a new cam when i get back from ohio where im working in a couple weeks. im not exactly sure what im gong to be doing yet but im trying to figure that out. it was acually going to to cost $200 for the replacment panels for the cab and i got a basicly new one for $300 and im heading to north carolina anyway so im just going to go to florida after and pick up the cab and bed. and im in monson MA right outside of springfeild
ridered333
07-17-2008, 05:05 AM
oh yeah your from monson im from new braintree on the other side of ware i went to highschool in palmer at pathfinder.. so once you finish this truck ru gonna run it up the hill climbs?

ya if i was to fix the cab i would need both floor pans, extended cab corners, both rockers and the floor supports too so i just figured id get a new one and i needed the bed too so we got the bed first and figured we mind as well get a cab too. and the only parts i need to finish the truck other than the cab and bed are a grille ,some tires, a dash pad and a stereo. and ya i plan on racing super stock in october.

Get and ORD steering box brace. I put this on when I lifted my Jimmy and I havedaily driven it for 5yrs with 35's and no frame cracking at the steering box like they are prone to do.
How do you like those headlights?
