Well I will see about the motor..mine has 160k on it, tranny has lost 3rd and OD once, but then was ok...so well see what happens...

I will have to do somethign about the bed..linex is like 400 and i really dont want to spend that..i may just do like my old truck and rubberize undercoat it..the truck has been sitting on my buddys hill since i crashed i and the bed is the only part that still looks new..

And the motor runs fine. You can re-build it a helluva lot better than buying a 5.3, and if the trans takes a sh!t, well then it takes a sh!t!

ehh i dont want to do anything to the bed that will cost much until i weld the tubs in and that will be a little while..so il make something work...If im going to spend the money to build a 350, i can get a stock 5.3 and already be far above any 350 i could build for comparable money..get better mpg, better sound etc..Im looking into the wireing issues right now with Nelson Performance..But thats a ways in the future..project for next winter

you can get a crate for cheaper than rebuilding that would have better power, better MPG, and "sound better". trust me the 5.7 is a more reliable engine than the 5.3.

moot point tho that 350 can take more than 160k. the tranny can be built by AAMCO for next to nothing if you dont want to do it.

They are doing more primer..he just wanted to get some on it to see what else needed to be done. They are blocking it and primering it again...and I dont care about the bed..Im getting the paintjob for an amazing deal..2500 for what would have cost me close to 5k anywhere else...Im not to worried about it

i'd herculiner the bed if you want to go the cheaper way than linex, mine turned out pretty damn good and it only cost 65$ and i got a 20 $ mail-in rebate, it's cheaper than linex and if your like me and don't use your bed much, it would work great, here's a pic, it's dirty and im still workin on bending up some aluminum battery boxes and i have a friend that can tig aluminum, so i can sand and polish em, should look better than that crappy black plastic one

umm my garage consists of a giant mess with a tiny path to the door. I offered to clean it for my parents if i could use 1/2 of it for my truck but they refused. So it either sits in the street or the driveway. Oh wells.

You can use armor all to restore the black color and shine. it wont be like new but it will be better.

as for the 5.3 .... set aside a lot of time, and more $$$ theres a lot more to swap than just the motor, radiator is cross flow, a/c needs special pump and mounting down low is a pain,custom exhaust, electrical, and mounting stuff.. adds up quick.

as for your trans, hows the fluid, last filter change and full fluid exchange? if yours goes i know of one rebuilt with a shift kit, servos, etc, sitting in my garage...... :)

Hell ya im gettin excited...Ya the whole 5.3 thing...It is a distant idea..next winter at the soonest. I will put some research into it..

And about that tranny..PM me with what you would want for it..It may be easier/better to get a rebuilt one with a kit already in it then me putting one in this tranny..

Aight..went back out today to check on it. They long blocked it and are going to primer it again this afternoon or tomorrow..He is then getting everything set up to spray in Friday morning. Gonna do all the parts as well as try to tint the tails and 3rd brake light to match the flat..heres some pictures and some other cars around the shop

He was painting the bumpers right as i was leaving and is doing paint right now..tomorrow It should be put back together..I can only hope

Well every other place quoted me at least 5 grand for it..2 cab corners, over 60 dents..all were stud welded and pulled, color change, color match everything, paint tonneau cover..just a ton of work and he quoted me 5K but then after we talked he offered to do it for 2500..the work is top notch..its just taking a little longer then i would like

Finially got it back. Its an awesome feeling haha..Paint is great. The guy did an amazing job on it. Only things is that the paint is being weird..The truck is like a chalk board feeling, but the bumper, grille, gate are smoother..the guy who dropped the paint off said that after a few washes that the texture will go away and it will all match perfect..well see..anyway here are the pictures..Bling Bling

PS: To the guy saying it's impossible to get 17mpg with E-85, I only filled up about half a tank. So far have been getting great mileage with it until today when I had my foot to the floor the entire time because I was running late everywhere I went today. I'm guessing this tank will be around 10...

But back to the truck! I agree that some stripes are in order to break up the plainness.

That is kinda weird about the paint not matching on the bumper/grill/gate though. I don't know much about paint but what would washing it do to make the texture match better? Doesn't really make sense to me but I dunno. I hope it matches up after a few washes though.

I painted my S10 myself with Hot Rod Flatz, and had the same problem on some of the panels. My left bedside is a little shinier (like your grille and bumper) than the rest of the truck. Honestly, I dont think it is going to "wash off" mine didn't.
I think that the problem came from either the paint being a different batch (slightly different amounts of reducer and hardner),or the gun being held at a different distance from the parts, or more coats on those particular pieces. Keep in mind, they were probably painted on a stand, horizontally, so there is potential for more material adhering to the part. I am not a painter by any means, just my opinion.
But since you paid to have it professionally painted, you should have them make good on it.

i wouldnt put any wax near that truck for atleast a month. i know its not the normal base/clear, but you still dont want to trap in any solvents.

Werd on the wax cuz if u put anything like that on the paint it will mix in with it and it you end up respraying anytime soon to match better they will have to take it down to bare metal again. Remember it takes on average 3 weeks for a chemical drying paint to fully cure.

Dido on some pinstriping. Even if you did something with a gloss black stripe to set it off would be tight too. Lookin good bro.

Heard this one at a local cruise in last summer between a younger guy (circa my age) and an older fella (circa 50) about this kid's 50's model panel van painted flat white.

Older Guy (OG) -- "What color you gonna paint it?"
Young Guy (YG) -- "It is painted."

Just an update..well i guess i really dont have anything haha..just been driving it..im sick of the paint looking like ****..prolly get it redone..a shop will respray it for 600 so its the correct color..
Going to get some sound deadener soon and then get my black carpet. After that the inside is done. I will then work on getting the bed finished (tubs,notch cover). By Aug. I need to have my blowthrough done so I can go to the Indy Truck Bash and take a few people with me..Hopefully in July Ill start that.

yup im goin with raamat..Its just going to be a basic blowthrough..which is hard as hell with an 18" sub..since the bed of an obs isnt tall enough to mount it vertical..heres a drawing of the box.

double baffle on bottom? that 18" is pretty heavy.

you might want to start a thread over in audio for the system. the box looks good for the most part but i think you might want to try to squeeze a little more space between the floor and the sub.

i like your equipment tho. should pound. what the box volume about 6 cubes?

Well i talked to the guy who painted it tonight..He feels really bad about it and he is going to do whatever it takes to make it right. Hes talking with the paint rep tomorrow to see. It was a new product for him and the paint rep so it will get taken care of. Im glad to hear that..

Here is an update..

The truck is getting repainted by the guy on the 25th of July. Dropping it off then, gutted out, and picking it up the next friday. Thats when the fun begins. Im going to ITB in Indy on the 8th, so that week is gonna be really busy..

-Install my Raamat kit. Ordering it this week. Thats why the truck will be gutted when I take it to paint
-Build box for blow through and get that installed- either that or take out the system for the trip. We will see how it goes
-Install tranny xmember so I can drag the frame off at ITB lol
-Paint headliner black
-Get black carpet and install it after sound deadening
Clean everything up, get it road worthy for the 400 mile trip down there. Leaving Friday morning for the show..gonna be fun

So now an update on whats going on now..
Im kinda half ass trying to sell the truck..idk if someone offers the right amount ill sell it,if not i have no problem keeping it.

Things on the list
-Get new valve solonoids..rabbits chewed the wires on them all the way down..****ers
-run wire loom around all wires and airline, re-route a few things
-install new tranny xmember
-clean frame and undercoat it black
-get engine compartment painted black
-straighten out frame in back..its slightly turned on the pass rear rail..not sure how that happened, but i cant get the box bolt to go in
-new bushings in the 6 link..they were chit and wore out in 3 months
-new air tanks and line from my EDC..making SURE i have a pressure relief valve so i dont push 300 psi again..cracked the welds on 2 of the tanks
-tub the bed and get it all bedlinered
-install shocks on the front, fix the rattles in the front(aftermarket hoods rattle quite often unless you put spacers in the hinge bolts
-install hood struts since springs are going

damn thats a pretty big list..as you can tell even when something looks finished, theres always more that needs to be done..better hope for a decent tax return this spring
