yeah do them forsure, they run $10 per ring, and you'll need two inner seals, so it'll be about $50 all together but well worth it, it's gonna look sweet, i'm rolling at alot slower pace lol

02-05-2008, 11:20 PM
im likin that cover, but i have to have it open from the outside because of my shaved tailgate...
ya i will probably just replace them then..ya I was going at a slow pace, and this still is..4 months to do it all is plenty of time..just have to get **** done when im at home like the front end, but other parts i can do up here at school..
Also what else should i replace in the front? The control arms i have, have brand new bushings in then, along with new moog ball joints, then ill do those wheel bearings. I think i need and idler arm and pitman arm, but im not entirely sure..my steering is pretty loose..Also what about tie rods? I dont know what i should be doing since im bagged and everything sees such extreme angels...also for the sway bar, i need new bushings on the end..Is there a front end rebuild kit anywhere?

Thats a decent list, and the truck should look good for the dells. I go up there every year as well, I already made the reservations for the wilderness hotel. I havent decided if im taking the truck or the mustang yet since I have a list for both. Maybe ill see you up there.

for tonneau covers the checkmate is the cheapest way to get a clean and fairly flush lid, the only thing i see with the checkmates is they're never straight, always wavy, i ended up going with a gt classic by gemtop. it was kind of expensive but it looks smooth and straight.

You should check out AVS, airbagparts.com they have what you looking for. I don't know what shipping would be for you though. What do you need a front license plate for any ways, I roll around without one, here in Cali.

They seem to like to pull you over here in WI without one so i figure i might as well..it wouldnt be so expensive but shipping on bumpers went up a bunch he told me..I just want to go with Custom Classic because of their quality of parts..

Im workin on it..i have the mirrow, door pins, headlights ordered, workin on the bumper and rollpan...I figure I can get the major stuff like the front end, welding the pan on and such done over my spring break..most of the other stuff I can do up at school..Main part will be if they cant get it painted in 2 weeks between when I get done with the semester till the dells...

i think you open that bed cover with the locks it has on the two back corners
You can order the cover with or without the locks i believe. I would get it with the locks just for a little added security altho you dont have anything in ur bed. (ie..valves/tank/compressors) I believe you can also order some gas shocks to hold the tonneau up in place. It does have a slight lip on still which is rather easy to grab IMO.
Main part will be if they cant get it painted in 2 weeks between when I get done with the semester till the dells...
The bodyshop will definitley screw your whole plan.
Nickleahy23

The bodyshop will definitley screw your whole plan.
Im hopin not...Its between the dealership and another body shop...Im going to get it all set up a month or so in advance and make sure its done on time..but ya my last truck was supposed to take 2 weeks, took a month and a half
you should just primer it for dells and get it painted after IMO...
Nickleahy23
02-06-2008, 09:39 PM
Ill see what happens when I talk to the body shop...depending on how much more that single stage paint will be and how much longer it would take..I got a quote of 1300 for body work and black primer so thats a possibility..well see
Why are you going with single stage over base/clear?
Nickleahy23
02-06-2008, 10:21 PM
Why are you going with single stage over base/clear?
$$$...I want a finish like shave05's truck..it will be like a satin black finish..Last time i got a quote for a paintjob with the full base/clear coat it was over 4k and just the body work and primer was 1300..so im figuring single stage takes less work there for it should be a hell of a lot cheaper

Nickleahy23
02-11-2008, 11:49 AM
well it will depend on what I have for funds...and I dont want to spend a bunch on a paintjob again..my last truck I had got keyed multiple times..Its my daily that gets driven through winter and parked in a college parking lot. Once I get out of college it will get the paint it deserves but I just cant justify it as of right now..chances are it will just get primer for a while...all I care about is it will look better then the dented up **** that it has right now

none..whats what happens when your vehicle is parked between the dorms and the parties at a party school...drunk idiots just **** **** up..and the dent came from a camp fire..I think someone got in a fight and got thrown into it..Either way I would rather go with a cheaper way to make it look good for now..but well see what kind of quotes i can get.

Got the new projectors installed..No glare with these babys..they have glare shields in them. Here is a light picture..Ill get a better picture of the projectors when its light out and not 4*. The lights fit just like OEM which I am very happy about.

I dont have the time right now to go and make on on the CNC plasma cutter at school like i did before..Wekk stay tuned..Also here are some current pics of the POs..Ya it needs a bath to say the least..and we have a TON of snow here at home. Alright just another update..Got the front bumper, rollpan, tailgate handle filler plate and hidden hitch. Now I just need the time to rip this thing apart and get the new stuff on. Im hoping that during April it will be getting painted so then I dont have to rush it during may...Just have to but the brake rotors and then ill have everything for the front. Im going to wait on replacing some front end parts just because i dont want to spend $300 on that right now. It will get done this summer though.

Rollpan from AVS..Really good quality and very heavy duty. There is a small dent in the bottom from shipping I think, but its nothing that wont get fixed anyway. Even came with a light for above the plate.

This is Mike (gooberchevy). I've been waiting at sh*tbrick's house for an hour and half for him to get here so we can go and get the front end all tore apart. We had a few beers last night, he told me to be at his house by 10...and he ended up staying at his gf's. The **** even told me he would cook/or buy me breakfast. So now I'm hungry and sick of waiting.
Lol anyways, hopefully some progress will be reported by tonight.

haha just seen that..Nah no gettin laid..I was drunk and passed the **** out..Well we got quite a bit done today. Long story short one side is back together. Need new tie rods. Cut the frame above the control arm in front, the arms are de-humped as well. The arms look to be almost hitting the frame completely and it still seems like im 2" from laying out in the front.Do I have to cut above the arm on both sides? I thought u just had to on one side since the arms are dehumped..I Will notch some more **** out tomorrow and get it laid out..Heres some pictures..

I dont know what to do with my battery. Wont be room in front. Maybe a bus bar and run the battery in the bed? also gonna weld in the trailer fenders tomorrow and then get everything situated..its a mess on the drivers side and that EDC makes it real cramped..Heres the pictures. I will be able to lay 22's with my swaybar FYI

Before I was maxing out when the arms hit the frame so I should still get a decent amount..only cut 1/2" off

nice progress. did you have to cut the frame to get the lower control arm to clear? also did you relocate the wiring harness on the driver side firewall?
Nickleahy23
03-18-2008, 11:07 PM
ya I had to cut above the arm on the frame..I havent gotten around to moving the harness yet...It clears the tire by a tiny bit right now..I figure that I wont be driving that low ever so if its not hitting when im laid out then I shouldnt have a problem..Ill still look at it tomorrow and see what I can do..

Still have a lot to do.
Front
Trailer fenders
Battery Mount, which may end up going in back somewhere
Mount fuse box/brake block stuff
Sway bar end links put on
Put bumper on (one bracket is bent if you remember)
Back
Mount hidden hitch
Move tanks
Weld in roll pan
So it will be a bit before it is all said and done, but it's getting there
Just talked to Nick awhile ago, he found some trailer fenders for $14 bucks each, so hopefully he gets those in today.

awesome man, glad to see my old arms goin to use! 2 1/2" upper cups will lay the 22's perfectly how i had them set up for max lift, i had 12 1/4" lift in front with 200psi in the tank. not bad for stock arms. for a lil more lift you can check out my old build thread and see how i notched the frame to clear the upper arms below the mount to allow more lift. once you get my old trans x-member in you'll be layin rail! welcome to the club man!

Well today I got the front end all finished up bascially..double checked it all, cleaned it up and painted the frame. Still workin on the tie rod notch reinforcement...all is good though. did some cuttin and welding and got the trailer fenders in. Moved the drivers side harness up and to the left..kinda ghettoly but its decent. I welded some sheetmetal over the old hole then finished in around the new spot for the harness. I then used some expanding foam to make it water tight. Ill trim the foam and paint it and you will never know its there...Well thats about it i guess..here are some pics

Aight well got it all finished today...double checked the front the made sure everything was bolted back like fenders and hood..then I started on the rear. took off the bumper, mounted the hidden hitch..Then came the problem of mounting my tanks..I got it though..3 5 gallon under the rear of the bed with a hitch.I mounted them sideways this time. The rear one is centered, while the next 2 are offset to the pass side to clear the watts link arm/bracket. Works out perfect..Also mounted my valves on the notch brace.Wish i would have done that before the winter..Well Im gettin an alignment tomorrow. Heres an update..Went to check on the truck today..Only been in there for 2.5 days and they are almost done with body work. Just have to do the cab corners and finish the rollpan. It will be gettin taken apart on Friday and primering everything. Every dent has been or is being pulled with a stud gun and puller then smoothed over..check out how many were on the roof alone. Here are a few pictures.

Man there was a lot of dents in that thing. She gonna be tight when it's all said and done. I 'm lovin the color choice. I'm tellin you go with black grill and leave chrome wheels. Or go with black wheels just do gloss black instead of satin on the wheels. That would be sweet too.

$2500....its an amazing deal..first he said about $4k...but then we talked for about an hour and i told him how im willing to take stuff apart and do this and that...we got talking about his 79 short box that hes doin on 22's and stuff and hes like you know I want to get my name out there for the custom stuff and have been wanting to do a project like this, so I think we can make it work for $2500..Thats painted everything like mirrors, door handles, grille, bumper, bumper filler..then all the dents are pulled with a stud gun and smoothed, no gobs of bondo, cab corners on both sides, finish off the rollpan...its a hell of a deal

Well not much more progress..I got the rear side windows tinted today. 5%...precut tint FTW. Took me about 15 min to do both of them..Will be going out to see the truck tomorrow afternoon..hopefully the cab corners are gettin worked on. Still havent decided on flames or not..
no flames. get a nice graphic done on it. somethin from your grill to the end of the cab and mayb e little bit on the bed side. and something on the tailgate to complement it. if you did that with a gloss black on a flat black base with a gun metal pinstripe. titties.
sLOWrado01

ya I still can't decide..I think I may just leave it flat black for now..I know the flames COULD look really good..but it would take the exact type to make it work..I cant loose with keepin it just flat and somewhere down the line I can get some flames done if i decide to..

also sorry to jack, but that ventura came with the pontiac 350, which was the same size block as the poncho 400/428/455. And almost every suspension part for the 60s camaros bolts right on. There is a lot of potential in one of those ugly little cars.
I vote for flat black right now. Only put flames on it if you have to explain to more than 5 people a week that its not black primer.

My two cent on your paint...but I do have a somewhat biased opinion b/c i love flames. I don't know how bold you want to make it. But how about flames laid out pinstriped in silver, red or white -- no color in the body of the flames, they'd be flat black like the rest of the truck. Just a thought. I may be too old school, but I think it'd look sharp.
Hopefully no one else has suggested this -- I just spot read through the thread.

delete the pocket under the A/C controls and move down the A/C. then do a bezel and a like custom fab work for the brackets on the DD. its a lil bit of work but worth it. with you fab skills you shouldnt have a problem. if you do a search i think someone has alrdy done it.

From what I have seen Nick, like I was telling you, you just have to trim the trop of the stock bezel to fit one...no need to move the HVAC controls.

This has nothing to do with the truck but did anyone else in WI get snow and 30 degree weather yesterday?? Wtf is this, April 26th and it was snowing...thank God I was riding MX in an indoor track all day, kept me nice and toasty!
I think stripes (if done right) would look better than flames or leaving it flat black.

Just got it primered today..dunno why it took so long but there it is..they are lettin it sit outside for part of the day and then going to block it down again and primer it again. He wants to spray the black on Thursday..Its really wierd to see the thing one color, no dents or rust holes lol

putting a 5.3 in there would be quite a project. that would mean completely different computer and wiring, plumbing for coolant, and some creative engine mounting.

Kiss your money for the DD good bye...
Leave it and roll it son.
Looks like they still have to primer all the other components like the grille and bumper too.

i agree with everyone else. screw the 5.3 the 350 will last much longer.
DONT spray paint the bed before you do the linex. you will get very bad adhesion for the liner. you want the bed to be as clean as possible. im talking cleaner than being able to eat on.
