A better turbo, tuners, lots of things. I even heard of people trying different injectors. One setup I seen on thedieselplace.com was 350 horsepower.

I am thinking of buying a 1997-1999 chevy suburban with the 6.5L. how is it's performace? i ve been told it is ready slow and couldn't spin the tires in the middle of a rain storm. I don't want to belieive this but i don't want to be disapointed because a i am going to sell my 2003 chevy with a 6.0Lgas engine and i know the diesel might not have as much power but a still want to have fun. from you who own one is this true.

I have answered it at least a half dozen times....

So what's wrong with being a nice guy and answering it a 7th time? :dunno:

The 7th time is the straw that breaks the camel's back....

Aren't we here to help? Some people just prefer more personalized help and like to hear it straight from the horses mouth.

Hi there. The first couple of things most people do with the 6.5 is let it breathe better. Install a 3" mandrell bent downpipe and 2 1/2" mandrell crossover. Next see if you have a plastic "snorkle" in the fender where the air filter box attaches. Pop off the airbox, and look into the fender. Usually there's a plastic tube that directs air. Pull that thing out, it necks down to about the size of a box of matches, very small and restrictive. Next see if you have a "kitty" or soot trap in the exhaust, or replace the exhaust with a 4" or so mandrell bent one. Also get a good set of guages, pyro, boost and maybe trans temp if you have an automatic. Hope that helps.

Also look at peoples signatures, it lists what usually people have done to their trucks for modifications. Then if you need further help, you could use the pm function if you have more specific questions. And by the way, she can smoke the tires.

One thing I did on my blazer was install a mechanical wastegate actuator instead of the vac one but I would not go too high on the boost without monitoring your EGT,s I think I settled around 8-10 PSI at same time I did air box mod and opened the exhaust to straight thru no muffler it barks but not too bad as the turbo takes a lot of noise up I am not saying this all correct to do but seems to work for me

Panhead man is right too, i have fab'd a couple of those. About #5 in parts, trip to home depot or hardware store of you choice and 20 minutes. If you do that, you can junk the vacumn pump, install a shorter belt and eliminate 1 more problem area. Heath diesel has a good chip setup, Kennedy diesel as well.
